ibeckcafion To the soldier who fought from the foxholes of Bataan: to the sailor who. in keeping the sea 'lanes open. risks the agonies of sudden death or the slow torture of thirst and starvation in a lifeboat: to the pilot who knows that he holds at the touch of his trained fingers the mighty destructive power of the bomber: to all those of Bay View, from the maiors to the enlisted men, who are serving their country in the front lines. we who would serve at home dedi- cate this. the 1942 issue of the Oracle Annual. For us they have abandoned the peacetime order of their lives. all they have worked for, all they have planned for, all the present held, all the future prom- ised. Each one of them has made his own personal sacrifice that we might hold fast the good things of life which we treasure. When it is given to them to turn these pages. may they find the school they knew in happier days as teachers or students, in the hour of their country's travail, quickening to the beat of the drums of war. and proud of her fighting sons. standing with them in spirit while the ramparts they watch .
