W I milf , 1 U I FUREW The 1942 Oracle Annual had its beginnings in days when war cast its malign shadow over all American life, war that seemed at once so near and yet so fantastic and remote. Many Americans felt that their fellow Americans, in thinking of war. in recognizing its ugly shadow, were hysterical and sadistic. Then came Pearl Harbor. The shadow had become substance. The Bay View yearbook oi 1942 seeks to depict the varied activities of a high school adiusting to the most challenging, the t ominous, the most cataclysmic times our country has ever nown Those responsible for the underlying educational phil hy guiding the school believe that youth should not pre- cipitately abandon formal education. and that all young Ameri- cans, while still getting much of the old training. should lind a place for themselves in the multiple humanitarian war activities. If all the priceless opportunities of American education are to be saved: if civilization in the American pattern is to endure: in short, it our country is to survive. we must win this war. Bay View in 1942 recognizes nothing as more important than this survival.
