F-5- ., x Q ' ' We, the Class of '59, dedicate this book to you, Harriet Hall, with lasting affection and grati- tude. It is our attempt to express our feelings, which so often remain unspoken. If, as Aristotle has said, '-'Our characters are the result of our con- duct, then your quiet influence on us will surely be far-reaching. We are grateful to you, Miss Hall, for lead- ing us through the intricacies of Latin grammar with such patience. 'But we are more than grateful for the many very special things you have done for us, which even here must remain unsaid. It is these things, together with your warm friendli- ness, which make us feel that you like us as peo- ple. Those who have been in your classes, those who have been especially lucky to have known you through Latin Club or sorority meetings, and those of us who have known you simply as our friend will never forget any of these things, or you. We thank you, Miss Hall. 2 f giizgsi, iw? HARRIET HALL as fa, ' p,,,s.,,. 1 V,V2, p .pvy M y ,Vg De '36 . It travels hand in hand with nature as we go hand in hand with destiny. And, although winds may lash out, and tides may rise, we shall be as rich as the sea with its fortunes and treasures, for we have known the intangible riches of friendship, guidance, and understanding. But the finished product is worth it to us- how about you?, Pictures, pictures, and more pictures! Heads, captions, stories, write ups, paste ups, layouts! And that's what yearbooks are made of. Representatiz'e,' DAVE SPINA-Presidentg GERTRUDE ZEGEL-Vice Preridentg CAROL LAHY- Secretaryg NANCY ELLIOTT-Treasurer fnot picturedj While swimming in the seas of Bay Shore High, the juniors have played an important part in school affairs. Many tides have come and gone since they entered high school, and they have accomplished much in that time. The Smorgasbord dinner, the sale of candy and stationery have all shown the initiative of this class. The junior sponsored faculty basketball game and the junior Prom promise to be in their fine tra- dition. Another pennant on the masthead of the class of '60 is that the new Russian class is comprised solely of juniors. They have seen the need for understanding and communication in our sea of life. Next year will see if Neptune has chosen to smile upon them u they rule over the whole Bay Shore ship. Indeed, they hope to be as wise as the class of '59, now beginning its swim into the seas beyond. 72 W, f. i. On their first watch they secured funds for the cruise ahead. They rowed away, prosperous from their fund raising activities. Nine o'clock and all is well was the call of the watch as they really put the wind in their sails with their play, The Mystery of Mouldy Manor. The gym wasrigged for their dance, which proved to be a great success. They swabbed the decks clear of all other activities as they pre- pared for the annual Smorgasbord Dinner. A hearty thanks to Miss Minnis for leading them safely through the shoals of their sophomore year. So, as old salts, they pass on an old seagoing word of advice to the new boots : Remember, one hand for yourself, one hand for the ship. 76 1. AA. One for 3.10,' two for 5.15. VARSITY FOOTBALL .us , 4 .nf A-'B -.. - joe Erickson's varsity gridders compiled a 3-3-2 record during last season's campaign. In their return to League I the local charges compiled a 2-3-1 record which, because of the triple tie for first place, was the second best slate in the league. The campaign was characterized by fine de- fensive play, especially on the part of the forward wall, but the offense did not click as well as the whole crew hoped it might. Ed Hubbard ended his brilliant varsity career by being selected on the All-Scholastic Team for the second straight year. Ed was also selected as the outstanding lineman by his teammates. Gordon Schupp received a similar backtield honor. Others chosen for special recognition were Dan Murtha, Lou Tuzzolo, Gene Metzger, Tom Ketcham, and Dick Donaldson, who all received All-Scholastic Honorable Mention. Top Rou Coarh Strine, R. Hubbard VARSITY SOCCER Under the leadership of their new coach, Jack Boyd, the 1958 soccer crew was 'faced with an almost insur- WE mountable task of rebuilding after the previous years' successful seasons. With the problem of filling eight vacan- cies due to graduation, coach Boyd did a marvelous job, compiling a 3-3-3 league slate and an over-all record of 5-4-4. A low total of only eighteen goals was scored, pri- marily because the squad usually played as a defensive unit. High scoring honors went to junior john Cody, who accounted for five goals. Post season glory was gained when senior Dan Grasso was nominated to Newsday's Second Team, and when Dick Worsley also received recog- nition for his fine play. Widl the loss of only three seniors to graduation this year, the underclassmen are hoping to land the Suffolk County Championship in Bay Shore again in the near future. 4 6 0 2 0 8 4 4 2 2 2 O 4 108 THEY Kings Pork Sayville Islip Copiogue S. This was the second successive year that the Marauders lost by one point in a play off game. This year it was 46-45 to South Huntington, last year 54-55 to Babylon. The Maroon and White were generally con- ceded fourth place in the rough A-1 League, but their high finish is a tribute to the great coaching of Iggy Darson. This year the Marauders participated in the Hauppauge Yuletide Tournament and reached the finals of this affair before bowing to undefeated Babylon. Once again the Marauders placed two representatives on the All Tournament Team, as Art Dromerhauser and john Morrison were se- lected. As far as individual statistics go, Art Dromer- hauser led the team in assists, 104, and foul shoot- ing percentage, .69l. john Morrison led the team in scoring with 322 points, 16.9 average, and in rebounds with 205. fx nu.-XA Vu I Berry E Sclmezder D Kelsey Hanley P Bururufb W Aslaiun E Brown, R Neal, A Reborlacrzo, P Powell I Cody Coach VanNosIrand I Petty D Spma, I Stevens ' THEY W. Led this year by captain Ed Hubbard and seniors Tom Ketcham, Richie Donaldson, Al Krus, Dan Grasso and Brian Petrie, the Maroon and White matmen avenged their regular season loss to Amityville by decisively winning the Suffolk County championship in February with 122 points while the Tide, as runners-up, scored 94. With eighteen teams entered, the grapplers emerged with five individual championships: Charles Geddes, 119 lbg Al Krus, 137 lb, Joe Easley, 143 lb, jim Pigeon, 151 lb, and Ed Hubbard, 171 lb. In addition, Dan Grasso and Richie Donaldson earned runner-up honors. The anchor of this superb crew was captain Ed Hubbard. In addition to his many victories in dual matches, Ed was three time winner of the Suffolk County Championship fseasons 1956-'57, 1957-'58, 1958-'59j, and, as we go to press, he is a possible three time winner of the Long Island championship, having already won twice Qseasons 1956-'57, 1957-'58j, with this year's championships still to be decided. There was only one senior on the squad this year, Captain Bill Fowler, and a goodly number of underclassmen to carry the Bay Shore pennant in future years. Among the underclassmen were Fritz Schabauer and john Petty, two of this year's lead- ing runners. Other harriers who, it is expected, will make the old tars smile are jon Clark, Nick Pallick, Bob Holmes, Tom Moreland, Carleton Friedman and Gary Lepak. 1w4dZ?' 2 ' 1 L71 J, ss' 'Lil al - 1 Mk QF-. 3 ' aff wr. This year, the maroon and white returned to the A-1 league where the competition will be very tough, but Coach Komoroski feels that his boys will make their presence be known. One of the reasons for Coach Komoroski's eager anticipation is the return of, for the third year, Captain Artie Dromerhauser, who will be playing short- stop, hard hitting centerfielder, CliH Hillg- and ace moundsman, John Morrison. These three, along with Pete Stein at first, Spencer Goldsen at second, Richie Reeves at third, Mike Cooper behind the plate, Tom Warburton in left and the only non-veteran in the starting lineup, but nevertheless, a very promising ball- player, Dave Thomas in right, figure to be the stickouts for the squad this year. Add to this, pitchers Paul Thorpe and 'lim Misner, plus very capable re- serves Jerry Berka, Leon Gambetta, John Horman, Frank Farmer and Paul Susskind, the perennial third base coach. All this is why Coach Komoroski's hopes are high for a successful season. J. Horman, R. Reeve, C. Hill, F. Farmer, L. Gambetta, S. Goldsen, D. Thomas.j. Berka, T. Warburton, M. Cooper, A.
