Butrh Eetvrnnv 2-Xrtrutiwz One brlght chllly day late m September seven young ladxes attlred ln sllckers and galoshes and carrylng umbrellas scrub brushes and palls quxte astonlshed the easy golng townspeople who witnessed thelr march ln single flle along the Maln Street of Bay Shore Thls unusual spectacle however was soon plauslbly explamed when nt was dlsclosed that the Dutch Detectlves of Bay Shore High School were mm atmg seven new gurls mto their club The vlctlms of such cruel IIIHICUODS ln the course of lmtlatlon were ane MacMahon ane Wvley Dorothy Robin son Anna Harper Dons Curley Leola Snedecor and Loraine Ketcham These new members added to the old one Edrth Rhodes Helen Rrtch e Dorothy RltChlC Mary Wlnegar and Mary Clark made a total of twelve nn the re organized club for the l927 l928 season The Dutch Detectlves believe that more can be accompllshed by few than by many The purpose of the club IS to sponsor social gatherlngs back financially as much as posslble all chool orgamzatlons and to promote school Splflt At the first meetmg of the Club officers for the year were chosen Edlth Rhodes was elected President Helen Rltchle Vlce president Mary Wlnegar Secretary Mary Clark Treasurer ln the middle of the year Mary Wlnegar resigned her posltlon as secretary which Was hlled by the electron of ane MacMahon to that office Mlss lngalls kindly accepted the mvltatlon of the Club to become Faculty Advlsor About the mxddle of November a dance was gnven ln the g m whxch was cleverly decorated ln a gay and festive manner The muslc was supplled by Eddle Woods South Shore Orchestra Such fun' The dance was a splf-n dld success both financially and soc ally From the proceeds of th s dance the money needed to supply the Girls Basketball Team wrth two Jerseys which they lacked was donated Two food sales held at McWhorter s Real Estate Office through the courtesy of Mr McWhorter helped conslderably to swell the D D s x chequer ln February the Club declded to g ve a Valent ne Party for the occasion of whlch Lorame Ketcham offered the use of her home Each gurl lnvlted a boy friend to the party and from elght thlrtf mto the tradntlonal wee small hours of the mornlng the crowd danced and made merry At the close of the basketball season the eight members of the boys varsity basketball squad and thexr coach Raymond V Chester were pre sented wlth tmy gold basketballs for thelr watch charms and also a very appetlzlng chlcken dinner at Flynn s Fanrlawn Hotel Mr George H Gatle Mr Clifton La Platney and Mr Carl W Meyer were mv ted as ue ts of honor The occaslon was a glorious success and the surprlse and apprecla tlon of the boys was more than enough to repay the D D s for their efforts Durmg the latter part of March another food sale was held at McWhorter s Real Estate Ofhce The D D s sincerest hope IS that each succeedmg year will contnnue to bring to thelr Club much luck and prosperity so that they may always be able to contrlbute thelr small share to the honor and glory of dear old Ray Shore H gh Loralne Ketcham 2 9 N B As thus book went to press rather early It was lmposslble to ln clude ln this artlcle the actlvltles of the D D s durmg the latter part of Aprll and the months of May and une udgmg from the past actlvntle of he Llub however each must have been a 1 reat success The l:.d1tor N . . - . , , I - 1 . , - J , J A . - . , , . - .1 . , U . - , , . 1 . - , Q . . -A , - , ' Y ' Y - U , , , - , YY' . . 1 . . , , . . . . . , . . e - . 1 , , . . lv A . . 7 4 . , . , - - , I fi' ' . , . . g . . . , 1 . . . , .
