mafia 6-ffpfviaew eam e Dear Girls- Four years ago you had the occasion to make an important decision- a decision which led you to Bay Ridge High School as the Class of january 1943. To paraphrase thc famous words of Iulius Caesar, You came, you saw, you conquered. You came here young and eager indeed. You were extremely young, and you displayed an alarming amount of energy which, fortunately for all of us, was quickly diverted to productive channels. You were eager to try every new experience high school offered you, and you flitted from one to another with such rapidity that I feared you would never settle down- but you did. You saw -but you were not satisfied to be mere spectators. You were joiner-uppers who could not wait for the opportunity to revise old ways and devise new ones. In you burned the zeal of the crusader, the courage of the pioneer, the ardor of the reformer. Perfection and Originality became your watchwords, you did your best to attain the former, but the latter was yours by natural endowment. I have often been an interested spectator and sometimes an adversary in some of your attacks on customs and tradition. Your strategy was usually carefully planned, the execution perfectly timed, the attack expertly led. You knew exactly when to give up an inch in order to gain a yard, when to continue to fight, and when to abandon a hopeless cause. You were gracious losers and generous victors. You conquered -for the obstacles which loomed so high four years ago proved surmountable when you came to them. The dreams and am- bitions you had then have now been realized, revised, or rejected as imprac- ticable. Never, though, in your most fantastic day-dreams, did you visualize the tremendous imprint you would make on the future customs and tra- ditions of Bay Ridge. Now, on the eve of your departure from high school, you are about to make another decision. This time the course you choose to follow will help lead us all to victory or to defeat. This time your decision will be of the gravest importance, not only to you, but also to a world at war, for upon it will hang the well-being of the world. May the skills you have acquired in forming intelligent opinions help you make correct decisions now and always. May the qualities of persever- ance, tolerance, unselfishness, cooperation and leadership, which you have displayed in Bay Ridge High School, help you as you start out on your new crusade of making this a better world for future generations. Yours affectionately LIARTHK C CACCAMO
