Mrs. Marie Seaton, an Associate Professor of Business, has served as Chairman of the Division of Business and Law for 18 years. ln addition to being an enthusiastic supporter of student activities and an advisor to Inter-faith Council, Mrs. Seaton has served as an excellent role model for students. Mrs. Seaton has had a number of articles published in professional journals and is the co-author of A Reference Handbook of Business Usage. vvhich is required reading for every secretarial science student at Bay Path. ln 1974, Mrs. Seaton was named by Bay Path as an outstand- ing educator and vvas included in the 1974 edition of the Outstanding Educators in America. During the summer of 1984, Mrs. Seaton received a faculty fellowship from Bay Path which enabled her to attend the International Conference of the Society of Business Education in I-lelinski, England. Mrs. Seaton also had the opportunity to visit Russia. ln addition, Mrs. Seaton has escorted a number of students on trips to Mexico and Western Europe. Mr. and Mrs. Seaton are the parents of three children and the grand- parents of four. We, the class of 1988, salute Mrs. Seaton on her 30 years of service to Bay Path and wish her many years of happy, healthy and productive retirement. I 'UL -,p- , .H President's Message Following Commencement each of you will be traversing different paths and pursuing your specific objectives. The rewards of your Bay Path education will be the contributions it makes to moving you closer to the achievement of your personal and professional goals. Some of you will retain your student status at colleges and universities in pursuit of a baccalaureate degree. Your preparation at Bay Path will serve as an excellent foundation on which to build additional skills. Although you will encounter normal problems of adjustment to a new and perhaps larger collegiate environment, you will nevertheless be an experienced student with developed self-discipline who has adjusted to college life. Many of you, in fact most of you, will retire as full-time students and continue your education on a part-time basis. Yours will be the world of work and financial independence. This is the world that as students, you describe as the real world. This is what you've been working toward and waiting for, and yet as the time approaches, you are understandably inse- cure. You will be called upon to compete in the marketplace for employ- ment - to obtain a job, to produce, to perform, and in essence, to succeed. You will have to stand the true test of the quality of your intellectual, technical and social skills acquired over years of preparation. Whether your chosen path is that of student or employee, your world is one in which values and stereotypes have changed so quickly that tradition- al choices and solutions no longer apply universally. It is in the business of living that your choices and decisions will have the greatest impact on your lives. The kind of woman you are and the kind of human being you are striving to become are even more important than the degree you earned. The quality of your life is infinitely the most important element of your future. All of us at Bay Path sincerely hope that through your exposure to the wisdom of the ages, knowledge of the human condition, appreciation of the arts and literature, and your study of the other liberal arts components of your Bay Path education, you will enjoy not only productive and fulfilling careers but live effective and meaningful lives. I was walking along the beach with the Lord, and across the skies flashed scenes from my life. In each scene I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand. One was mine, and one was the Lord's. When the last scene of my life appeared before me, I looked back at the footprints in the sand, and, to my surprise I noticed that many times along the path of my life there was only one set of footprints. And I noticed that it was at the lowest and saddest times in my life. I asked the Lord about it: Lord, you said that once I decided to follow you, you would walk with me all the way. But I notice that during the most troublesome times in my life there is only one set of footprints. I don't understand why you left my side when I needed you most.
