New additions West Hall, also built with the funds provided by Mr. Bollum. was constructed in 1960. This building immediately became the hub ot' student activities as teas. art exhibits, dances, and special dinners were held there. A third residence hall was added to Bay Path's physical plant when a private home was converted into Perkins Hall in 1961. Bay Path's only building that is separated from the main campus by Long- meadow Street had previously been a Church of Christ. Mr. Frank S. Hatch gave a substantial gift of books to the college library in 1958. and Hateh Nlemorial Library is named in his memory. ln 1963 Bay Path was authorized by the Commonwealth ol' Nlassaehusetts to grant the Associate in Arts degree. The colleges academic program was expanded to include the liberal arts curriculum in September of the previous year. The lirst A.A. degrees from Bay Path Junior College were granted in June, 196-1. A modern classroom building was constructed in 1963 and named Carr Hall in honor of Thomas G. Carr, President of Bay Path. Among its features are seminar rooms, modern language and science laboratories. and an auditorium. In limi Mills Little Theatre was added to Carr Hall. Provided for by Mrs. Ada C Nlills ol' Springfield, Massachusetts. the addition was named in memory ol' her late hus- band. Mr. Erwin F. Mills. The 500-seat theatre houses several dressing rooms and a cyelorama. which encloses the stage and acts as a backdrop for choral groups and speakers. Bay Path now has one ol' the linest raked theatres in the area. As years went by, Bay Path's horizons were broadened. ln physical plant. and in academics, the college expanded . . . The college year Woo-67 will mark the continuation of Bay Path's expansion. Two new academic programs will be initiated-pre-teach- ing and legal secretarial. ln the fall of 1967 a nursing program will be added to Bay Path's curriculum. Students graduating in this field xxill be fully registered nurses. Few junior colleges in this area offer such an extensive program West Hall is being enlarged to include: a dining room to accom- modate 500 persons, a faculty dining area, a bookstore, several ollices, and a snack bar. These new facilities will provide for relaxing meals enjoyed in a gracious atmosphere. Georgian architecture is the design of the spacious dormitory ris- ing on the south lawn. The new residence will house 150 young women, several lounges, and a 14-bed infirmary.
