Pleas stand hy for just 0 moment. Hello Boys and Girls! Lverytody ready for the hedtime story? Our story tenight is considered Q very important one, It is the story of the glorious class of lC27, Bay Path Institute, of which I rm 3 member. Once upon a time, to he specific, on September 1, 1925, the teoohers and students in the other dppartments of Bay Path Institute partioulmrly the seniors, gazed vith awe and wonder into the room called the Junior Room. what did they see? Why children, there eat 90 dignified Juniors, the very humps of Knowledge bulging from the r crsniums. This was the heginning of the class of 1927. A few days after the opening oi dent of the Senior Class, offered ue school Kiss Straus, the presi- the assistance of the Seniors, and invited us to a get-scquuinted lawn party to he helo et lr. Lun- ford's home. Needless to say, all Juniors were there. At this party s Junior named Flanders distinguished himself hy obtaining the largest number of Seniors' H0063 in five minutes, while e very timid little Junior named Frquce for getting the smallest numhert shy to ssk questions! After several days in which ers and one another, the members ing officers: Conz won the oensoletion prize You see, children, she was too we besme scqusinted with our teach- ei the class decided that e guid- hand was needed, and acordingly elected the following class 'H df President Alice McFarlane Vice-President Den 'illisms Secretory Clara Cooke Treasurer Kenneth Taylor, who leter left school and Whose place was t ken hy Penn Minucei. At about this time there was formed in a iront corner of the Junior room a very unusual orienizstion, comwosed of fourteen young lsdies, unusual because thzy wire so very quieti lever Q sound came from this group to disturb Lrg Derby while he has conducting a recitation. Never did he Tino it necessary to mend e member of this group from the room for rllutehevior, and if Irene Nash con- ducted an occasional concert, occompenied by Ubinkien Irher on a tin lunch box, for the private ediiicction of Ramen Corner, iso named by LI Eunfordl the strains of music seemed not to reach the are of Mr. Derby. Ah, Childrfn, this Wes truly a model group! You would do well to follow their noble example! Timepassed quickly and soon it we: time ior Christmas vacation which seemed all too short for the Junior class. A littlewhile after Christmcs the close tes gieved to hear that Mru Munford urs forced to leave school for an indefinite perioe of time. To yoke o long story shQgjJ Hr. Speer took uy tis classes and labored feithfully to help ue preprre for some of the most anxious moments of our livs, those :pmt in taking the Wregg examine- tion. Gregg examination gives one U5 thrill that coms once in C lifetime,H and I don't believe anyone will ever forqet the qerersl sigh of re- L, :.-4 A lief when the examination was completed. The Junior-Senior debate, on the subject NResolved that the Government Shall have control of the Anthracite coal mines,' re- sulted in a victory for the Juniors, who upheld the negative side. Ruth Gometz, Norma Shcinfinc and Kenneth Taylor represented the Juniors. The next point of interest was the Penmanship test. Despite the fact that Mr, Dudley's ire was aroused by our abominable scrib- bling, we are happy to report that most of the class passed the Palmer Company's requirements and received certificates. The Junior Prom, given on June 4, l927, was a huge success, m never to be forgotten event, thanks to the efforts of hiss KcGinn, Cie Junior faculty advisor, and the Misses Gometz, Bell, honacella, Isham and HcLachlin, the committee in charge of the affair. The play given as the Junior's contribution to the Spring Carni- val, featured two present members of the class, Jean Randall and Edna Siipola, as well as two who have since left us, Alice McFarlane and Catherine Northrup. Reunion festivities marked the end of the school year. Unsus- pected talent was discovered among the members of our class by the committee, composed of the Misues bheinfine, Bowler and Kotkin. The great song hit entitled Why Mamma Gave Me a Penny,N as featured by Eva Sacchi and Fanton Lyon, as well as the naturally childish actions of Hilda lsham, 'Sonny' Butler, Frances Cons, Norma Shein- fine, Mary Markus, Inez Stoeckert, Ted Connell and John Marshall are doubtless remembered by all of you. l n 1 .I After the laying of the cornerstone for the new Bay Path build- ing, we felt that the year's work had been properly completed, especially since we had deposited in the cornerstone the scroll bear- ing the names of the class of l927. Looking back over our Junior Year, two instances of historical importance stand outg one illustrating the fact that our Salesmanshiy teacher occasionally made false statements. Nr. Viggin repeatedly made this statement, nThere is no psychological momentln Now as any member of the class of 1927 can tell ou, this was an erroneous Y statement, for as the very words issued from his lips, the psychologs ical moment was sure to arrive for some poor unfortunate, and Nr. Wiggins' next words whoulc be UReport at Hrs. Bliss's officeiu The second instance bares to the world the interesting informa- tion that once upon a time one of us received a dot from Mr. Derby. The occasion was this. Economics class was in full swing and Mr. Derby, discussing the benefits resulting from the investigations and experiments of various scientists, suddenly asked, WWhat man of our own times has done much work of benefit to the world in the way of developing new fruits, Miss Maher?N UDinkieU rose to answer, and hearing an absorbed student near by whisper to herself, Hluther Bur- bank,N she sweetly replied, nDouglas Fairbanks!H Mr. Derby, pleased with her prompt reply, nlnther Burbank--very good, Miss Uaherln and forthwith placed a dot on Miss Maher's card. On September 1, 1926 we came back to school, conscious of the duties of our position as Seniors, and eager to greet one another af- ter the summer vacation. It took us a few days to become accustomed to our new quarters f ' A in the Ugnncuu nnd We were exrrl ti t n. The Hormel class of 1927 had the pleasure of giving the first V party to be given in the new cuilding. Both boys and Girls organized basketball :epne and though they did not tent the record of our wonderful scniei tear, tgt members of both teams ll played nobly for the glory oi their class. Under the direction of Norma Sheinfine, chairman of the com- mittee, the senior girls worked early and late, making raroon and yellow paper ehrysanthymums to sell to rooters at the first big school basketball game. Ihe preeeeds of the salt, iuoenginf to approximately forty dollars, helied smell the Senior treasury. About this time the Seniors took an rather a mourniul ap,3ar- ance. Reason? With the arrival of Reunion the Senior Committees found plenty of work to be done. Anna Evans and Thelma Harran were appointed Senior representatives on tts G.nernl Alumnae Committee. The Sen- fcr Stunt Committee, composed of Katy Larkus, chairman, and Marion iebert and Beatrice Trunin, sal oiei er al3-star cast, made up of ngie Potash, Katherine Jmilsy, g1rio: iobcrt, Tossie Sullivan, Vina Wright, Mollie Jentich, Nwriel Lngjh. It is needless to detail the reunion activities--the entertain- ment on Friday night, the State Luncheon and the Banquet at the Kim ball, when the Seniors were greeted as baby Alumni. The last and most momentous exercises of the class are now being completed. We, the class of 1927, have further distinguished ourselves by establishing a precedent--that of social events per- taining to graduation. The Glass Banquet, planned by a committee consisting of Ruth Gonets, Karma Sdeinfine and Jean MoLachlin, and given last night at the Hotel Bridgevay, was the first banquet to be given by a class graduating fron bay Path. This, our class day, is the last occasion on which we shall all be together as Seniors of Bay Path Institute. Let Y -ii fi qi , us, in leaving, take with us only the pleasantest of memories and hope that only the pleasant ones will remain in the thoughts of our teachers and schoolmates. Tnis evening we are To heir an in,ormp1 tara by the ucttd Mr. Finn Minccvi, editor of Who-s Who, Plfasc stand hy one moment while Mr. Minacci gathers his notes. Friends, if I could but see the vast audience which is now tun- ing in, I might have an acute attack of stage-fright, but having no visible audience, I feel perfectly at ease. It is my pleasure this evening to give to my unseen audience the nets of the day concerning those honored personages whose names appear in the columns of Who's Who. On Broadway the great lights of the Amsterdam Theatre now blaze forth announcing the latest musical comedy success--WPrancing Pitman- itesn--written and produced by that famous couple so well known in theatrical circles--Agnes Hackett and Robert Morey. In a recent review written by that noted critic, Edward Gaouette, we read: WPrancing Pitmanitesn has been acclaimed by New York theatre goers as the most vivid and charming musical comdy of the season. In it we have the sparkling Mary Hughes who scintillates through a dash- ing rendition of the Charleston, ably assisted by that master of the terpsichorean art, NTwc-Gunn Morey. Another headliner is dainty Miss Tassie Sullivan, who captivates her audience hy her fascinating toe dancing. Some of the dainty dancers of the chorus are former Pitman stars of Bay Path Institute, their Alma Mater. The names of Idaldmkhi 5 Q7 Esther Marsh, Yvonne Terrien Mafalda Principi, Lillian Zitomer, Lucie Pollock and Edna Siipola deserve recognition. In the musical world startling changes have taken place. The famous pianist, Bee Truman, has taken the top rung of the ladder, by the superb technique with which she manipulates the electric piano. The leaders in opera are now Evelyn Minck, soprano, and Gatheryn Lord, contralto. Their powerful notes ring through the great Metro- politan Opera House, and the audience is held spellbound by the volume and richness of their tone. Fritz Kreisler and Mischa Elman no longer hold first rank among the violinists. Celia Baranowski and Mary Terra have superseded them After a successful tour of the United States, they are now traveling in Europe playing in the larger cities. On the silver sheet we find the acting of Miss Jean McLachlin far surpassing that of even the once-famed Greta Garbo. Although she is now in silent drama, Jean got her start on the legitimate stage while attending school at Bay Path. She will be remembered as the Winsome star of Tony, the Convict, and her training there fitted her for the flaming love scenes in which she now appears. Speaking of the Cinema world, we might here mention that Harold Lloyd has been succeeded by Irving Sermini as America's most popular comic actor. His antics delight the hearts of thousands of youthful theater-goers. His latest picture is UAu, for the Love of Pat,U inspired by his former Naffaire d'amourU with Pat Scannell. i ent to consider thebrilliant and astounding success of LLL. While traveling in the realms of art, pause with me Tor a mom- t younf woman painter, Mary Markus, who has eclipsed all art recorcs with mer painting entitled HGiraffe with the Humps.H Our Magazine, Who's Who, has found it necessary riilir tie past few months, to open up a new swctioi devoted to the attuiinegts of persons in fields difficult to classif . Perhaps the strangest of these is the rem advertisinq stunt of the Bowler-Janick Cod Liver Oil Cempany. They have obtained the services of Kiss Minerva Groshegp and Liss lerophy Barred, who tour the country as a human advertisement for doc Liver Oil Uoefore and 'after taking.U Another Hstuntn is that employed by the Forhes and iallace cow- pany of Springfield, who has hired the World's tallest vegan to act as store detective at Christmas time. Of course, you all recognize this person as Miss Eileen Morin. The attention of reporters of Uho's 'ho has been 6T+ acted fc- cently to the daring Miss Inez Stoeckert, champion ti Lt-rope fair- er of the world. We learn that much of ner early traininm was gained at her Alma Tater, Bay Path Institute, while decor Tipp ti lofty ceilings of the auditorium there. P Before the next number I have time to give a brief resume of our program for this evening. I regret to announce at this time that Miss Marion Hebert, the greatest woman broadcaster, cannot be with us tonight as previously planned. Miss Hebert talks nightly from Station L. O. U. D. In a recent interview she said that in radio broadcasting she could find the best possible outlet for her always pent-up vocal capacity, thus talking to the largest number of people at once. We are fortunate in having with us tonight, Miss Murial Smith who will entertain first with her delightful little song number-- Hwhen Irish Eyes are Smiling.H She will be followed by Kiss Anne Evans, wha will pive a non- ologue entitled UDoinfs of the Joneses.U At this time I should like to announce our radio pro5ram for tomorrow morning, which will be of especial interest to housewives They will hear the Misses Goss and Harran, famed for their making of maple sugar products, and will have an opportunity to learn man new ways to utilize this product. Miss Ella Fjellman, noted for her Swedish pastry, will also dictate several of her new recipes for the housewives to add to their cook books. A talk which should be of infinite interest to mothers will be one by Miss Tina Wright, who has been a kindergarten teacher fo years. Her subject will be, NEarly Guidance of the Young.H Miss Wright has always aimed at setting a good example. Just for a moment now, folks, we will have a brief review of the theatre programs for the week. At.Poli'e we have on the vaudeville bill Maher and Nash, the Inim- itable Twine, in a series of comic sketches. On this bill also are Flanders and Connell, two handsome shieks, who give their audience a remarkable display of HLove-Heking as it Should be Done.U The special attraction at Broadway is Randall and Ieham who appear in a clever and charming dance act. Yith them are Dorothy Chapman and Christine Evans, the jolly cloggers. At the Capitol, Mollie Jentock proves to you in her own original skit, my good listeners, why NGentlemen Prefer E1ondes!H This concludes my announcements for the evening-abut hold! The latest news flashes are just coming through, so please stand by just one moment. I F ..3.. Edythe had always had a passion for machines. But machines rare very expensive and Edythe found that it was impossible to make money as a school teacher. After years of earnest thought, she had conceived the idea of selling ice cream, hot dogs and cold drinks to the Icelanders. ,As a result she was the richest woman in Iceland, worth all of taco, and was the only person in the entire nation to own and drive a two-cylinder touring car. With a sudden jerk the train stopped and at last We were in Reykjavik, the capital city. The street was gaily festooned and thronged with people, laughing and talking. Hwhat can it be?U I asked. But Edythe merely smiled wise- ly and Walked on, not stop inq until we came opposite the bal- cony of a very beautiful snowhouse. Suddenly there was a hush and an expression of awe passed over the faces of the crowd. I followed their gaze toward the balcony, and with an ejaculation of astonishment grasped Edythe's arm for support. HYes,H she whispered, Uit's Ruth Gometz. I knew you'd be surprised. She had married a very handsome Count, but tired of the r never-end social rounds that were a part of her life, she left the States with me to make a fresh start in life. She is now being honored as the first woman to be elected to the Althing, which is the legislative body of Iadand. ...tD..
