We hope that through this book, we have portrayed a span of these pathways to the future upon which each of us travels. Education is in itself a wide and heavily traveled pathway — each leading to some goal set by those who are traveling upon it. Just as some roads are unpaved, so are some pathways to success un- paved. There are many rough and threatening sections. However, if the goal is kept in view, all difficulties can be surmounted, and the pathway will have served its purpose of furnish- ing a means of guidance. We are proud of our faculty who are the guideposts along our pathway through high school. Without them our trek would be futile. With all these things in mind, we present to you the 1966 YELLOWJACKET TRENA SCOTT Assistant Editor TItrs. CRufJi 3ane Dedication It is an honor to pay tribute to one who has become such a genuine part of Bay High School. Her interest in students and her eagerness to help them have endeared her to all who have come under her influence. Because she means so much to so many, we the Annual Staff, dedicate the 1966 Yellow jacket to Mrs. Ruth Lane. Mrs. Lane is a native of Alton, Illinois, and a graduate of Alton High School. She received her B.A. from the University of Illinois and her M.A. from the University of Memphis. In addition to teaching at Bay for three years, she has also taught at West Memphis. How could a mistake that big got- ten by all four of us? The SPOTLIGHT was a new experience for the ten journalism students this year. The mimeographed eight page paper was a publication which came from brand new ideas and inexperienced writers who put forth their best efforts to make the paper good read- ing. Five of the ten attended the Arkansas High School Newspaper Conference which was held at Fayette- ville in August. The training was rewarding and re- sulted in new ideas for the SPOTLIGHT such as the Honor Roll and Student of the Week, and enabled the students to converse with other journalists from all over Arkansas. Staff positions were: Editor - Janis Pulley: Managing Editor, Bill Ham- mett: Society Editor - Trena Scott: Alumni Editor - Jan Stotts; Art Editor - Diann Long; Advertising Ed- itor - Ronnie Wilson; Sports Editor - Buddy Watts; Elementary Editor - Deborah McClelland; Head Typist - Sherry Thompson; Mimeograph Operator - Larry Chance. The Student Council is an organization which is made up of representatives from each of the grades and clubs in Bay High School. It strives for a better school system and an understand- ing between students, teachers, parents, and administration. The Council is in charge of all assemblies, elections, and major school projects. They attended the fall district meeting of Northeast Arkansas Student Councils which was held at Blytheville, and sponsored the annual Campus Queen Contest in January. The fire marshalls are all members of the Council and they worked continuously this year with posters, fire drills, and fire hazard check-ups. The Council members may be commended for their tireless efforts during ’65-’66. It must be, because we have loved building it so much! MISS SUE CAMERON Remedial Reading - Junior High MISS JANER SHEPHERD Remedial Reading - Elementary MRS. RAY SCOTT Drivers’ Education THANKS FOR PUTTING ME IN THE DRIVER'S SEAT A memo to Mom and Dad From: A Son or Daughter Thank you for letting me use the car. I want you to know I won't abuse the privilege. I also realize that you will be anxious about my safety and my friend's safety. You know I can handle the car OK. You know I have my license and received the proper training. What concerns you most is how will I behave with my friends once we're on the road. Right? Here are some promises I'll stick to. I promise to check the car before I go just to see everything is working right. You know . . . brakes, windshield wipers, lights, tires . . I'll take it out clean and bring it back that way. I promise not to horse around in the car. I promise not to let my friends fool around either. We'll use the seat belts. And no one else will be allowed to drive. You put me in the driver's seat, and that's the way it will be. I promise to be careful at all times. I'll signal my intentions at turns. . . slow down at sundown. . . and keep careful watch on traffic signals. Definitely, there will be no speeding. Also, that tip you gave me on keeping plenty of space between car s. . . what's it called? ... a Space Cushion? If it rains I'll be extra cautious. I really appreciate having it and I'll be home on time. So don't worry I won't let you down. p.s. u ,T! tfctt to HOME INSURANCE AGENCY ERIC ROGERS SONS GENERAL INSURANCE AGENCY UNITCO AGENCIES INC.
