The Annual Staff of Bay High School Presents The 1964 FOREWORD Ggd pity them both; and pity us all Who vainly the dreams of youth recall For of all sad words of tongue or pen The saddest are these: ‘It might have beent’ ” John Greenleaf Whittier We are proud of our school; in sports, in scholarship, and in the production of fine citizens. It is the purpose of this book to give the reader a more complete appreciation of what our town and our school has to offer for its youth. The years after graduation will be the most important ones of our lives. We must set our goals carefully and then strive to attain them. In order to make our youthful dreams become reality, we must work. Our quest to fulfill these dreams will be difficult, but not impossible. ROBERT H. HOLT, JR. Editor PATRICIA RHEA BURROW Assistant Editor TABLE OF CONTENTS FOREWORD IN MEMORIAM f BOARD OF EDUCATION DEDICATION ADMINISTRATION FACULTY FAVORITES ATHLETICS ORGANIZATIONS SENIORS JUNIORS SOPHOMORES FRESHMEN JUNIOR HIGH ELEMENTARY AD VER TISEMENTS We can think of no more appropriate tribute to Bud- dy’s memory than the words of Will Rogers; “I never met a man I didn’t like.’’ BAY-BROWN SCHOOL BOARD MR. J. W. SHEETS President MR. CONNIE McMASTERS Secretary Do You Know . . . . . . the man whose vivacious laughter and love of humor could not but force a smile from those around him? Do you know a man whose excellence in- spired you to new achievements in the course he instructed? If so, you know Jimmy Parrish. He has taught mathematics at Bay High School for the past three years, coming to us from Mc- Cormick High School. He is considered an authority in methods of math instruction. To this man of prolific achieve- ment we grateful- ly dedicate the 1964 Yellow- jacket. ADMINISTRATION MR. ARTHUR COOPER Wayne Dent is completing his thirty-first year as superin- tendent of the Bay Public Schools. During Mr. Dent's years of service, Bay has grown by leaps and bounds. From a single building on the campus there now is a Home Economics building, a Music and Guidance building, three elementary school buildings and a Vocational Agriculture building, a gymnasium, a Cafetorium, and a Bus Garage. Thirty-nine teachers, four janitors, nine bus drivers, seven cooks, and a mechanic are employed by the school district. Arthur Cooper and John Wiles are high school and ele- mentary school principals. These men have looked into the future and Bay Public Schools offers a superior type of curriculum to the youth of its area. They are helping the citizens of tomorrow. MR. JOHN WILES ELEMENTAR Y PRINCIPAL MR. WAYNE DENT SUPERINTENDENT HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL MISS ANNA JEANETTE MOONEY B.A. WARREN O'DANIEL B.S.E. In a world with an ever increasing importance placed on Science, Bay High School is trying to keep up with this demand. In Junior High the students get a firm background in Science taught by Miss Anna Jeanette Mooney. Mr. Warren O'Daniel teaches three divisions of Sr. High: General Science, Biology, and Chemistry. Time is spent learning through laboratory experiments as well as through text book work. In our homemaking classes we study Child Development, Family Relations, Clothing, Foods and Nutrition, Housing, Consumer Buying, First Aid, and Home Nurs- ing. Our study isn't limited. It is a broad field where learning never stops. We learn by doing. MISS MARY JANE HENDERSON B.S.E. The Bay F.F.A. Chapter is a self supporting organization. The Fellow- ship one with another is the thing that keeps our club rolling to the higher goals that have been set by our mem- bers. The boys always keep this state- ment in mind: Learning to do, doing to learn, earning to live, and living to serve. JIMMY GILLIAM B.S.A. MR. DONALD E. MASTERS B.S. E. X = —------------ should be a familiar term to all 2a Second-Year Algebra students. Also included in Mr. Masters' classes are First Year Algebra and a new course, Advanced Math. Mr. Parrish’s students should always remember the theorems, axioms and postulates from Geometry. He also teaches Practical Math. Mr . Morrison has given a background in Math for every student. His thorough methods of teaching have given each Junior High School student a basis for further study in Math. MR. JIMMY W. PARRISH B. S. E. ROBERT W. KITTERMAN M.S.E. MRS. WAYNE DENT B.S.E. SAMEUL E. CREWS B.S.E. Our English instructors have endeavored through the years to give us a better un- derstanding and usage of the living lan- guage we speak. Not only have they taught English grammar, but they have given an intro- duction to the outstanding literature of the many nations. Mrs. Carlson has not only taught gram- mar and literature, but has given a better understanding of other nations and their people. Mrs. Dent has taught journalism, and is sponsor of our yearbook. Mr. Kittermen is the Counselor and is in charge of our batteries of tests. Mr. Crews is the Junior High School English instructor. MRS. ROSEMONA CARLSON B.S.E. MR. VAN D. FOWLER B.S.E. The Social Science Department gives the student a knowledge of past happen- ings, therefore helping him to move for- ward in our world of today. It teaches the importance of being a good citizen. Mr. Taylor teaches World History, Govern- ment, and Citizenship. Mr. Fowler teaches American History, State Government, and Civics. Mrs. Holmes teaches Junior High History and Citizenship. MR. J. P. TAYLOR B.S.E. MRS. JENNIE HOLMES B.S.E. Mrs. Montgomery, head of the Music Department, finds her time well filled, teaching piano, sponsoring the Glee Club and helping Mrs. Gatewood with the FBLA’ers. Preparing for their assemblies and for graduation keeps this department always at work. MRS. LOUISE MONTGOMERY MR. BRYAN L. SCHISLER B.S.E. The P. E. Department is not only one of the most popular classes in school, but is also a very useful one. P. E. does not offer recreation alone, but provides the knowledge which makes for physical fitness, which the late President stressed so vigorously. 0 JUNE DOTY B. S. E. The Business Department of Bay High School offers Typing I and II, Shorthand I, and Bookkeeping I to more than 125 students. Improving your person- ality and learning to smile is stressed as well as skills in business subjects through the F. B. L. A. Mrs. Gatewood organized it five years ago and continues to sponsor it.
