A NOTE DPJIFTQ TO YOU IN Tl-IE TIDE FROM Tl-IE PELICAN The soft sounding of waves on the shore. . .the rustle of wind in the palms. . . but inside-clacking typewriters. . .hoarse shouts of copy, layouts, and deadlines. . . shuffling of pictures. . .clatter of layout tools. . .cluttered tables. . .chatter of voices. . .a familiar sound to the Pelican staff of 1957. Under the calm, unruffled surface of this department lie turbulent waters. From 2:15 to 3:15, five days a week, the walls of headquarters 12 ring with the shouts, laughter and tears of many harassed and often frustrated members of the Pelican staff In spite of flotsam and jetsam the staff managed to compile a book of memories of 1957 at Bay High The Pelican staff hopes that you will consider this book a treasure and that it will bring you floods of memories 1n future years unior staff members work on the 58 Pelican Elizabeth Ogburn instructs Mary Bowen while the 57 IS ln production in duties of Business Manager 73?
