The editorial and busines staffs are headed by Barbara Archer, Editor, and Dorothy Kelley, Business Manager. Mr. Harry Copeland is advisor. The Whirl consistently wins first place in the National and State Scholastic Press Association's Critical Services. For the 1955-'56 term, the paper rated All-State. This year the paper rated high in the tournaments by mail, sponsored by the Florida Scholastic Press Association. X M .E be .f rnns ' P TORNADO The Tornado Whirl is a four-page, eight-column newspaper. It is composed and edited by a staff of sixteen advanced journalism students and printed at cost only by the Panama City News-Herald. This standard-size publication, which is sold by individual sales, a pears bi- monthly offering news and features of campus life, classroom developments, sports, fashions, and interesting person- alities. The paper has a present circulation of one thousand. Business Manager and Editor Dorothy Kelley and Barbara Archer The Whirl was first published in 1928 as a page in the local newspaper. Later it became a four-page tabloid of its own, and in 1950, under Mrs. Inez jones, an eight- column publication. In 1949, the paper jumped from third class to first class, where it has since remained. All members of the staff have received credit for one year of fundamental journalism study. The staff meets and works during sixth period as a regular class with credit. Editorial Staff, Frazier Tharpe, Florence Hatcher, Grace Hightower, Dorothy Sear- brough, Phyllis Carter, and Jan Newberry.
