1 ' -1 QOFQ 6UOI'0f We are told that life is a highway, and we are as pilgrims traveling down this road. Even the person who has found happiness and success in following his chosen road must some- times pause and muse: What would have happened if I had followed another road? Educa- tion is a path that leads to this highway, and the direction we take in following the path will determine in a large sense the success and happiness that we find in life. To a Freshman entering high school, this is the beginning of a journey down a new, unex- plored road. The road widens for the Sophomore as he enters his second year in high school and he finds new paths that challenge his interest. By this time, the junior has found that the road has many detours and that shortly he will reach the crossroad where he will seek to determine the direction he must go. The Senior has reached the crossroad and is looking back over four years of work, of sports, and of fun. Roads has been chosen as our theme for the 1961 Black Cat annual. We have tried to express it in poetry as well as in pictures. In the days ahead, as you read this edition of The Black Cat would you not ponder on the road you have taken and think about the road you have traveled in Bay City High School? THE STAFF

MR. H. J. MCALLISTER Superintendent of Bay City Independent School District CS uperzkzfezz 0612103 ffvfofofress Dear Students: As you turn the pages of this Black Cat Annual in the future years, I hope you will recall many pleasant roads you traveled in the 1960-61 school year. To you who have been in Bay City High School for the past four years the roads have been long, but I am sure as you look back you will say they were happy and profitable roads. May the roads you pursue, either in the educational or vocational field, be happy and prosperous ones. As you travel your roads in future life, remember the saying: Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Remember also that faith without works is dead. And that he who asks, receives, and he who seeks, finds, and to him that knocks, the door is opened. So keep at it, until you find the instruction you need, you have made a fine beginning, do not stop, continue your education. Sincerely, H. J. McAllister
