Decliccztion We respectfully dedicate this 1954 edition of the Black Cat to our beloved Principal, Mr. E. J. Myers. Through his interest in our school and citizenship in our com- munity, he has become an outstanding personage and example to all of us. He is never too busy to help us with our problems, never too busy to talk to us and never too busy to do something for Bay City High.

vol i MAIN BUILDING BAY CITY HIGH SCHOOL Foreword CENTENNIAL 1954 TEXAS PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM 1854 This year while the schools of Texas are cooperating in a statewide program celebrating the 100th birthday of the Public Schools of Texas we, the Staff of the Black Cat Annual, have chosen for our theme, OUR TOWN. In looking back over the years we cannot help but give honor to the town that has Contributed to the growth of our school and the education program of the State of Texas. We, therefore, feel that by pausing a moment to glance about us here in our own community we may develop a greater appreciation and a deeper understand- ing of the beauty and richness which surround us in this nation of our Birth. Our town, and our county, often known as the Cradle of Texas History has run the gamut of time, beginning in 1685 when LaSalle founded Fort St. Louis on Matagorda Bay. Bay City, 25 miles from the Bay, is located on Bay Prairie, from which it takes its name. With an elevation of 52 feet, unexcelled water, and cool Gulf breezes the year around, public schools affiliated with all Universities, churches of every denomination, free public library, municipal water system, swimming pool, and railway facilities, Bay City is attracting citizenship which is now over 12,000.
