Fl FOREWORD We have endeavored -to present in this book not only a complete but a unified chronicle of our school life through the analogy of school life in its various phases to renowned examples of architecture. Our theme, then, is BUILDING, and it is on this foundation that we constructed this book. We chose architectural forms as this binding force for two reasons: School days can logically be considered as the build- ing of a person's character, and in this building process, a student marks off mile- stones of achievement, these milestones, in turn, bring to mind those qualities ex- pressed by beautiful architecture. ls not the Lighthouse the essence of reassurance, the symbol of helpfulness? There must never have been a person who, looking at the Brooklyn Bridge, did not feel with nostalgia the opening up of new worlds, even as knowledge opens new frontiers. Yet, in a remoter land, the Tai Mahal is great for other qualities. lt is a favorite because of its uniqueness of design, its scintillating splendor! And to us the Parthenon is perhaps the most outstanding-most respected-of all the buildings the world has ever seen. On to Rome, and we find the Colosseum, sports arena of the ancient world. Not to forget England, here we picked the House of Parliament as typifying all organized endeavor. Certainly Versailles and her Palace recall to us all the pleasure-loving age of Louis XIV. ln all the world, which building best conveys the spirit of youth? Our choice is the United Nations Building, not so much because of its freshness and independ- ence-its incomparable boldness-but because this building symbolizes, in a con- fused world, the naivete of optimistic, fearless youth. And, if we look hopefully to youth for the future of the world, it is only because we trust that their faith shall keep alive the principles upon which the United Nations stand! Now to Gay Paree again and the exposition structure, the Eiffel Tower, which undisputedly, has been seen through the camera lens of millions of picture takers. We close our book, finally, back in New York, specifically Radio City, reminis- cent as it is of radio's increasing role in modern advertising. We believe the raison d'etre of a high school yearbook solely to be that the book is truly representative. So this was our chief goal. We realized, from the beginning, that every good has its bad-every inclusion, an attendant exclusion. We sin- cerely hope that you like our choices, for it is for you that this book was made. ,A CAMPU if an 0 rn Z rn an QE. EW GYMNASIUM I.. This game showed much improvement in the Cats' new single-winged offense, which punctured the Wharton defensive line time after time for needed yardage and for five TD's. The defensive record for this game was one of the most remarkable, with the Cats allow- ing Wharton only one first down the entire evening. -.-x- .ne --surges.-anim,-.rf was-L fa is -Dsxnuf '-1 -. f-f B ' 4, - - ri .L emi.
