Senior Class History It was in the fall of 1949 that twenty-one green faced freshmen marched up the stairs to Baxter High School to seek the knowledge which would entitle them to a sheet of paper called a diploma . The first big problem to all the freshmen was the seniors who came up with the big idea of initiation. The initiation was held in the gym with the high school as witnesses. Emily Miller dropped from our roll during the year, but Beverly Herold and Francis Castor entered. Our class sponsor was Mr. l'larlin Stenberg this year. Under the direction of Nr. L. M. Leeper, we presented the one-act play, 'Everything Off . Fall rolled around again, this time finding us bright faced high school sophomores rather than Greenies . Mr. Jewel Dusheck was our class sponsor. During the year, Beverly Herold withdrew from the class roll, but our class became the largest it had ever been when Richard and Robert Fitzgerald, and Ronald Childs entered. Our class play this year was entitled, 'Ten Per Cent Tommy . Mr. Leeper directed the one-act play. . When we became iuniors, we felt we were getting closer to the sheet of paper as we were past the half-way mark in our high school careers. This year the faces of Francis Castor, Sally Gearhart and Ronald Childs were not among us, but Martha Huffaker entered at the beginning of the second semester. Mrs. Nargaret MclVeekin was our class sponsor, and she worked faithfully and hard with us to make our Junior-Senior Banquet a success. Our banquet held in honor of the Class of '52 was held at Younkers Tea Room in Des Moines with dancing following the meal at the Tromar Ballroom. As our banquet was formal, it was a very colorful affair. The theme, The Wishing Well' was carried out. Mr. L. M. Leeper worked many hours with us to make our class play, Great Caesar's Ghost , the outstanding production it was. lt was a mystery in three acts. bbw, as we are seniors, perhaps time is going too fast for some and not fast enough for others. Of the twenty-One who started to high school in 1949, seventeen are still with us. However, we have a graduating class of twenty-one. This year, Betty Vansice withdrew from the class, but Egon Rebmann, German Exchange Student, entered. We held a pancake supper which was in charge of our class sponsor, M. Leeper. The purpose of this was to earn money for our annuals. Our senior play has been chosen. It is entitled, 'Finders Creepers . We are planning for skip day, Baccalaureate, Commencement and most are planning for a diploma. We, the Seniors of '53, will long remember our cherished high school days in good 'ol Baxter High.
