They had the responsibility of initiating the fresh men. They set their dues at 52.00 this yeor and hove been selling letter holding hounds and have sponsored one sock- hop. These kids hove been working very hord at their studies. They hove six sophomores in the Honor Society. Thot means they ore making very good grodes, as the Honor Society is primarily for iuniors and seniors. They have contributed to the football team with five big bruisers who helped the Jimtown squad play a pretty good game of football. They also have several boys ploy- ing on the B-Team. The sophomores are anxiously awaiting the day they are iuniors and can buy class rings, have a closs ploy, sell mogozines, and oll the rest of the activities thot go into their last years ot dear old Jimtown High. Sixty-four wide-eyed freshmen found themselves sud- denly thrust into high school life. Not knowing where to go or what to do, they looked for upper class friends and teachers to find out what was going on. Like all resourceful freshmen, they soon found out what was what and ended their first year looking like veterans. To start off a new year right, the sophomores initiated them. The freshmen, made-up and dressed in silly clothes, became the stars of a three-ring circus in the gym. They twirled hula hoops, played ball, did the bunny hop and a few more silly things. Even their sponsors, Mr. Mclntosh and Mr. Richmond, were initiated by twirling hulo hoops. The class organized themselves and elected their offi- cers. For money making purposes they held a car wash during the fall and at the last basketball game they held a cake raffle. l am sure that like all freshman classes, they will soon become sophomores and go on to graduation. l hope they will keep up their good school spirit, continue to work together as a class, and do their part in making the school proud of them. One section also took a trip to the International Business Machines Co. and enioyed themselves very much. ln their class work they have been writing short stories and keeping notebooks for their English class. They also ioin in the music class. ln art and design class they have done quite a bit of drawing. They have made pot holders, modeled clay and worked with paper machd. In the spring they held outside classes to draw pictures of nature. The eighth grade basketball team, with a record of nine wins and five losses, was the only winning team in the school this year. The team included Richard Brewer, King Dancler, James Edwards, Eugene Eggleston, Billy Ganger, Bobby McCoy, Roger Moore, Willie Roberts, Tom Secor, David Stealy, Joe Taylor, Don Voorde, Terry Wise, and Ronnie Davis. We kids ask some pretty dumb questions sometimes. After all, how can you think when you're discussing summer vacation with your best friend? Finally we do get them done and start figuring what books we have to buy. This is the first head- ache of the year. Mom and Dad want second hand books, and we don't, although some of the second-hand books are interesting reading on the inside covers-and then, too, you have to stand in line. But that's fun if some of your friends are waiting, too. When you finally get to the head of the line, it seems like the store has iust sold all of the books you need. But low and behold, a new shipment has just arrived. So now we are almost ready to start our new classes. Of course, there are always note books, paper, and pencils to be bought. I never can decide what color of pencil l want and how many different types of paper I'll need. But then that's the fun of starting a new school year. School ,Af 1' N Q... The class has elected ofiicers and held class meetings. Their group activities have included a Christmas party cmd a Valentine's party. The boys and girls have been devoting most of their time to studies. They have a number of members who participated in band and choir. Their activities periods are spent in playing ping-pong, basketball, and studying in their home rooms. They have a craft class in which they have studied enameling, basket weaving, leather working, rafiia and design. They have had art in which they worked with clay. They have also drawn some pictures and have done some painting. They have a basketball team consisting of Gene BeMiller, Brian Collins, Greg Crouch, Melvin Frost, Danny George, Chuck Hamlin, Bruce Hemingway, Roger Holdren, Larry Inman, Richard Lang, Bob Newcomer, Rick Rowland, Roger Stickel, David Tinsley, and Ken Dobbins. Their record reads three games won and ten lost. ln football, the seventh and eighth grade combined chalked up a record of three wins and two losses. The junior high succeeded in defeating New Carlisle twenty-eight to thirteen which is very good considering that New Carlisle hadn't been beaten. By now you know all these faces, but I bet you didn't on the first day. I wander how they felt on the first day? It must have been a strange feeling when somebody said, We're supposed to meet in the study hall, and they didn't know what or where the study hall was. lt must have taken some time to figure out where room 24 was when room 25 is in the basement and 24 is upstairs. And I suppose it isn't every school that has a snack bar run by the seniors in the cafeteria. I suppose, too, it took a while to figure out where all the doors in the gym lead to. I'll bet that really mixed them up! It's always a funny feeling for me to welcome a new teacher. I always wonder if they will approve of our school or whether they will dislike it and want to leave in a few years. I always hope that the students will accept them and make them feel at home. I do hope the new teachers have enioyed this year and will stay with us in years to come. SEP WN6 YOU .I is our pleasure. These classes remind me of the first graders who go to school for three days and then go home and gather their broth- ers and sisters around and sit down to read the funnies to them. Do you remember how you felt when you looked at that page and discovered that you still couldn't read? lt's a heart breaking feeling. I'll guess the first year typist felt that way, too. Going into the shop building for the first class is a shock. We see a lot of huge monsters who are all ready to fool you any way they can. Then, too, it's always hard to discover that you aren't a genius and will have to learn to type the letters one at a time and have to learn all the rules before you can do those physics problems. But after o few weeks, you resign yourself to the hard, cold facts and decide that teachers know best. You will have to take each day one at a time. But all this is forgotten at the end of the year and you feel like an old pro in these classes. -ov-4 ig, -Q .gi-' I Beginning peck class f 0' Y 2 A 5 Pggfggi geggfeg WMMNERALSIURE F.22?.I'4E? 2930311552 WILLARD GENERAL STORE Groceries - Fresh Meots - Vegetables Corner of lndiono No. l9 ond County Road No. 20 TELEPHONE 2-9252 ELKHART WINDSOR MOBILE HOMES Now o luxurious lO-foot wide, refreshingly new WAKARUSA PHONE 360 126 TO NEW HAIR LOVELINESS PERMANENT WAVE bf REALISTIC BARBER AND BEAUTY SHOP 0F ELKHART PHONE 4-0824 409 MYRTLE Compliments of CHICAGO TELEPHONE SUPPLY CORPORAHON ELKHART INDIANA Compliments of DARLING INSURANCE AGENCY 33OVz South Main Street Phone 3-0603 THE BEST IN INSURANCE ELKHART INDIANA comrumems OF DAYS TRANSFER. You'll soon ask to take your place in America as an independent citizen, as one share of the heritage your forefathers passed on to you. Perhaps you will invert your earned money in the stock issued by American business firms. This is another way of owning a share of America. There are many such examples of private privilege in this great country-voting is one such, electing the men and women who fill the chairs of America's government of the people. All this responsibility and privilege calls for the highest cali- ber citizens our parents and our schools can produce, Make sure your schools' investment in you, that your parents' investment in you-turns into stock whose value soars higher and higher as the years advance so you can truly aver that you are, indeed, a SHARE OF AMERICA. I wonder some times how I get any good out of disecting bugs and worms and things like that! I wonder if my English has improved much. I don't say ain't very much any more. And I'm begin- ning to find out a little bit about government. I didn't know there was so much to it. lt really is interesting learning about different iobs in vocation class that I can go into when I get out of school, In iunior high I'm just getting a taste of what it will be like when I go into high school. I can hardly wait. After we receive our assignments in our classes, we go to the study hall and finish our work. In the study hall we have our library with reference books, atlases, dictionaries and history books, We are un- der the supervision of a teacher who watches to see that we don't talk too much or too loud and that we stay in our seats most of the time. After we are done with our work, we can get maga- zines or library books. ADAMS TYPEWRITER AGENCY. INC. Bu BB FUNERAL CHAPEL sgmsss -.minimis fm W- WB' CFFICE FURNITURE Q Director 131 N. Main Sf. Freshman Initiation i Qg1 'tlSlUSilO be afreshrl'10f'r At the beginning of each year a new set of ninth graders is admitted to the high school. These ninth grad- ers, better known as green freshmen, are kept in a dither by upperclassmen as they wait for initiation to come. The day before initiation they are grouped together and informed as to what they are to wear and what they can and can't bring to school. The next day is always lots of fun. The freshmen ap- pear in their outlandish outfits. They are asked to carry books for the sophomores and to do other duties that are befitting to their elders. This year a program was held in the gym. The boys played basketball and the girls twirled hulahoops. Other riotous acts were performed by the freshmen, ending with a bunny hop that literally had them rolling on the floor. That night the freshmen were required to dress and form a cheerblock for the basketball game. On Saturday night a party was held for the fresh- men and sophomores as the official end to the initiation ceremonies and a welcome to the freshmen in the high school. Compliments of DR. ' . .I s ' .J It's all in the game. Footlmll Season And then there is football. Now this is something I like. Being an old hand at basketball and baseball, I find myself forgetting whether they make touchdowns or home runs. I never call them baskets though. After four years I'm starting to understand a lot more about how the game works. The sideline is so different from any other sport. Wh'en I yell something in the gym, everybody hears me, but on the football field, which is outdoors, I can't hear myself. The cheering section sounds very dead, even when we do our best. But when I hear the other side yelling, I think they probably hear us, too. It's fun to get all bundled up and go to a football game. I think it is more fun when it's cold, because you have to keep doing something to keep warm. That always makes me hungry. And trying to get something to eat at the stands during half-time is a thing that takes brains, muscles, and patience. But that is half the fun. The other half is watching the team play a good game and win. And l'm sure that as we get more experience, we'll win more often. Who, S me nexg move? The music department was really busy with its County Festival and the concerts at school, the contests, the Easter program, and the Spring Festival, Class proiects to raise money are always exciting. The whole class pitches in to help with the work and we have a lot of fun at the some time. I never get wet at a car wash, but the others do. Our King and Queen were elected at the Fall Festival. l wandered around all evening trying to see everything that was going on in all the rooms. There was a cake- walk, a spookhouse, movies, a place to go fishing, a dart throw, and lots of homemade goodies to eat. The sports banquets are always a high-light to stud- ents, especially the boys since this is when they get their sweaters, letters, jackets, trophies and other awards. lt makes me proud of my school when I see all those boys get their awards. Besides these, there were other club meetings, slumber parties, ball games, and gatherings at the local drive-ins. I hope everybody else had as much to put in his diary as l did. l .k ,., i w i 1 ,. ,I Thanks lor the memories. Pamela Gordon moves into an old mansion next door to her long, long time beau, Brian Barclay, and his daughter, Malvina. She brings along grandmother Abby, daughter Betty Lou, and Hortense the maid. Pamela then goes to a rest home for several days and brings home one young and one old millionaire plus a nephew. They turn out to be rather a peculiar group. Betty Lou, Brian Bdrclay, and Abby's long, long time beau, Clint Fardy, plot ways to drive the millionaires back to the rest home with hilarious results. They Gnally succeed, but all three love their freedom when Clint and Brian propose to Abby and Pamela and Betty Lou decides that the millionaire's nephew is for her. Most of the people are happy with the ending, but the reiected millionaires and Ross are all rather slighted. The ghost, who gave everybody a thrill, turned out to be Brian Barcloy's daughter who didn't want her father to marry. She changes her mind when Pamela hides her ugly scar and makes her a beautiful young woman. He told me that everyone at Jimtown had been pretty good and that they needn't tear a bundle at switches in their stockings. With that good news I hurried back to see what was planned at school. A big Christmas tree greeted me at the second floor landing at the north end at the hall. A scene of Mother Mary and the baby was at the opposite landing. Merry Chistmas was written on the blackboards in the rooms. In the hall the bulletin board told me about the Christmas activities. The grade rooms were the most color- ful with the decorations the children made and the pictures they drew. And, of course, teachers were reading Christ- mas stories to them. Many of the classes planned parties with cakes, fudge, popcorn balls, and cookies. The last day before vacation we were given a fine concert by the high school and elementary choirs. The elementary choir sang carols while pictures of the Christ- mas story were shown. The high school choir song some old and some new songs. Last we all ioined in and sang several carols. This is the sport that really excites Hoosiers, and .limtown is no exception. Each game sees a flurry of activity from every direction. The boys all practice very hard. The cheerleaders learn the yells and teach them to the cheerblock. The seniors and juniors set up tables, buy pop, candy, and popcorn for hungry fans. The girls in the cheerblock hang posters on the walls urging the team to fight hard. The teachers give us speeches about good sportsmanship and school spirit at pep sessions and the ianitors clean the gym floors so they will look nice for the visiting team. This year most of our games started at 6:45. The seniors were there early to be ready to sell to the fans. The seats filled up pretty fast. The cheerblock started their yells, always trying to out yell the other side and usually succeeding. The boys all played hard and the girls yelled and jumped up and down. The parents even got excited, es- pecially when a game was close. All in all they were evenings of fun and excitement for all and they should not be missed by any student of the school. The four-year members are Mr. Charles Heftner, Mr. Paul Dielenbaugh, and Mrs. Helen Forrester. The two-year members are Mr. Ross Kauffman and Mr. Burt Cook. The olticers are president, Mr. Kaufifmang secretary, Mr. Dielenbaugh, and treasurer, Mr. Heltner. Their duties include the employing and dismissing of teachers, purchasing of supplies, the purchase and. sale of buildings, levying and collecting taxes, and making a bud- get. Also they are now interested in new additions such as Treasure Island Village and the number of students that will be in our high school and elementary this year and in future years. Other things that they must be aware of and take care ot are the new bills that are passed in our Gen- eral Assembly and how they will affect us locally, the rent on the use of our school buildings, negotiations with the bu: drivers, and tryinq to run the schools as economically as possible and still qivinq all the educational value pos- sible. I would like to thank our school board for the fine iob they have been doing and hope they keep up the good work. 26 Our superintendent, Mr. Lowell Sheets, is pretty well- known around Jimtown. While I was talking to him one day, he told me about his long association with J. H. S. His first 20 years, T9 of which he was coach, were here at Jimtown. Then he spent six years at Wakarusa High School, but he iust couldn't forget the good ole Jimmies, so he returned and spent three years as principal. Now in his thirtieth year, the school board has appointed him to the position of superintendent. He received his B. S. degree from Ball State Teachers' College and his M. S. degree from lndiana University. In Mr. Sheet's position as superintendent, he is in charge of all the teachers and principals in the Baugo Township Metropolitan School System. He also carries out the directions of and makes recomendations to the school board. We are glad Mr. Sheets has stayed with Jimtown and hope to see him again next year. At the beginning of the year he started a new custom of making the announcements and giving o thought for the day first thing during our home room period. Being a principal in charge of 400 students and 22 teachers sounded like no easy job after he told me what all was involved. For instance, he works with the coaches to make out the athletic schedules, helps us to make out our class schedules for next year, takes care of the attendance, enforces dicipline when it's really needed, and counsels with us whenever a problem comes up. No matter how small or large our problem is, Mr. Miller is always willing to help and guide us in the right direction. He has administrative duties, too, which include his association with other schools and principals. Really we were glad to welcome Mr. Miller and hope he'll still be here next September. Honor Saciety When this year started, l heard a rumor about a pose sibility of an Honor Society. I was glad about this since l've talked to kids from other schools and they told me how much the Honor Society has helped them, their teach- ers, and their school rating. One day both the senior and iunior highs were dis- missed for an auction sale in the gym sponsored by the student council. lt was a lot of fun seeing all the kids bidding for everything from sweat shirts to a diamond ring. The profit of 539.20 went toward getting the society started. A committee of several faculty members prepared a charter which had to be approved by the National Asso- ciation of Secondary School Principals. Finally we received our approved charter and Jimtown was a full-fledged member of the National Honor Society. The kids that made the Honor Society try very hard to keep their A and B grades to stay in the society. Some- times grades are quite a challenge when there is a ball game or a party to go to. We always have to remember, too, that stoying.in the society depends upon leadership abilities, character, and service, as well as scholarship, 39 TH: -12 'H We .ibrarf :ewes as a corwcnience for the '.'.'J': z as -ffl as -213-2r9'C-2 for Ihr: librarians T-g-gg Hz' were -,191 fren, Hrlavional F H A Neck, 22:1 Need Pfasveizall Game: and School Spin! Deadlines, deadlines, deadlinesl Tl-uat's the key word tor eveiyone on the school paper staff from the editors to the writers to the production statt. The iournalism class is responsible for the writing end ot the paper. The editors, Nancy Dosch and Mary Qualls assign certain articles to be done by a certain date and they write the editorial. After the writers have turned in their articles, they are all put together just like they will be in the paper and this is called a dummy. Next the dummy goes to the office practice class for the production. The kids in the class each have one page to get set up and cut a stencil for. After all the stencils are cut, they are run oi? on the mimeograph. Then the students assemble the paper and staple it together. Last of all the iournalism class sells the paper during the activity period for Sve cents each. So you see, the School Bell Echoes is really a lot more work than lust selling. I'm glad they go to all hat trouble because I don't know what l'd do without the monthly school paper to catch up on everything. School Paper Stuff FRONT ROW: Tom Humes. Here is what I found. Since this is the first year for Chess Club at Jim' town, there are only about 20 members. They meet every day during the activity period with Mr, Bruce Martin as their sponsor. Membership is open to just high school students that aren't failing in any subiect. The officers as elected December I were president, Gerie Weaver, vice-president, David Hixong secretary-treasurer, Barbara Summerfield, and sergeant-at-arms, James Thompson. The dues are SO cents a semester. I learned that to play a good chess game, you must concentrate. The kids played a ladder tournament in which they worked their way to the top by winning. A trophy was awarded the winner of the championship tourney, played by the top eight in the ladder tourney. The next eight in the ladder tourney played a consolation tourney for which the winner was given a pin. I think a lot at the students are looking forward to Chess Club again next year. As l read further, I saw it was for the district F.H.A. convention, October 18, 1958. The district officers were invited to come on the 17 to prepare for the meeting the next day. The theme was Teens with a Purpose. After l read this, I got curious about what the F.H.A. was. The girls said the letters stand for Future Homemak- ers of America. They said the local chapter has 24 mem- bers, two chapter mothers, and Mrs. Christofeno is the advisor. Their monthly meetings are held in the girls' homes. Various meetings were a tea and style show, a talk by Senator Bontrager, a Christmas party and exchange, a talk by Mrs. Hartzler explaining how home economics training will help in marriage, and a marriage counselor who talked about things the girls can do to have a hop- pier marriage. Then the annual May meeting was a galloping supper and the installation of the new officers. The girls l talked to seemed to be glad there was such an organization as F.H.A. to belong to and be a part of. r :gn Qqg' gwgfige, Sgmgfg Henman, Putty Johnson, Virqinia McCoy, Dona Clipp, Bernice Kring, Mary Quail, ,3 :gn petty? The ofticers were president, Nancy Dosch, vice-president, Rita Cook, secretary, Connie Kauffman, health and safety, Mary Ann Forrester, and recreation, Jane Heftner. There were eighteen members in the T958-1959 club. Twelve members have had six or more years of club work. This year the girls had a total of thirty-one proiects. Mary Ann, Rita, Connie, and Jane took part in the judging contest. The proiects are things such as clothing, food preparation, baking, food preservation, and home im- provement. The annual 4-H fair was in August and the regular dress review was held. Mary Ann was reserve champion and five out of the ten in the honor group were from Jimtown. They were Jane, Connie, Rita, Sharon Squires, and Angilee Miller. Several of the girls were iunior leaders, YOO. From what l heard, the Stitch and Chatter sounds like a very interesting club. The girls at the same time can have fun and learn things which will help them and their future families become better citizens. High Schaol Choir 53 On the last day before Christmas vocation we all went to the gym first thing in the morning. The high school choir gave the same program as was presented the night before at the P.T.A. meeting. It was very pretty even though a few of us had heard it before. The choir sang carols of different countries and then they song the beautiful White Christmas. l clidn't know we had such a talented choir. After the program I talked to some of the kids in choir to find out more about it. The officers were elected in September and are president, John Troupg vice-presi- dent, Jim Bowers, and secretary-treasurer, Dana Clipp. The director is Mr. Lamar Holaway. There are 40 members all together and the dues are fifty cents a semester. The choir has participated in various contests, pro- grams, and concerts during the year. The whole choir was in the district choir contest, April 4 and the County Music Festival which was held at Middlebury this year, October l7. There were kids from our school in the solo and en- semble contest, Januory 31 at Nappanee. Besides the Christmas program the choir gave o spring concert on May l5 and sang at baccalaureate. At this program the Chordmen, a barbershop quartet, sang Willie Take Your Drum, the Carolers, a mixed quartet, sang Winter Wonderland, and the Melodettes, an all girl ensemble, sang The Sleigh. Each of these was a big help in making the program a success. All the groups went to the solo and ensemble contest which was January 31 at Nappanee. The Chordmen har- monized on Good-Bye My Coney Island Baby, the Melo, dettes song Black is the Color of My True Love's Hair, and the Carolers sang inthe Still of the Night. Also the senior trio sang Shelter and the iunior trio song A Lady Passing By. All of the groups except the iunior trio got a rating of excellent and they had a rating of good. The kids in these groups told me that there's more than lust being a choir member to being in an ensemble. They said it depends upon whether they can carry their part alone, along with other things. I sure believed that after hearing them, and l hope the choir kids form into more groups like these next year. This is one of the many yells that ga with the game of cheerleading, Our cheerleaders for basketball and football were elected last spring by the high school kids. Remember when we all went down to the gym and each team or group lead a yell together? Then they had to lead one by themselves, After everybody had tried out, we went to our home rooms and voted by secret ballot. The '58-'59 season cheerleaders were Nancy Dosch, a senior, Rita Cook and Sharon Squires, juniors: and Moriorie Voorde, a sopho- more. After the girls were elected, they had all summer to get new yells and actions worked cut. lt seemed as if the football season was barely over when we were starting on basketball. The girls changed their minds this year and decided to buy sweaters to go with their outfits instead of making the whole things. They had maroon and white Qored skirts and painted their megaphones striped to mafch, This worked out very nicely since toward the end of the season our varsity team got new uniforms that carried out the stripe idea. Nancy Dosch was rewarded for her three years of cheerleading when she was elected the most athletic girl in the senior class. I think all the girls did a swell iob on our school spirit this basketball season, Now that they moved our spirit up a notch, let's work a little harder and get it a notch higher next year. .,: ,..a-. 1 ll 51' th U VHS sewer 'vbf -Q 2112! .w-fs - JOHN TROUP . . . iunior . . . center , . vor- 5 fs N . . . fast improving, good rebounder, ggygr full o ig - a capable player. ce'er'se. The team captains were Frank Watts, James Thompson, Ted Ganger, Steve Miller, and Dave Klein. Any boy in high school is eligible to play regardless of his grades. The purpose of these games was to allow mass participation. There was a free throw trophy given to the player with the best free throw record and the boys on the champion team received medals. The games were played following the regular high school regulations with three minute quarters, but if a team was 20 points or more ahead, they let the clock run. Alter the first round of play all teams tied with a two and two record. Then a single elimination tourney was played. The scores in the tourney were Watts over Ganger, 45 to 36, Thompson over Klein, 42 to 40, and Miller over Watts, 5l to 32. Therefore the two teams in the finals were Jim Thampson's and Steve Miller's. fr fi' ' FRONT ROW: Gary Cook, Robert Riley, Arliss Patrick, Jerry Cook Jerry Fawley BACK ROW: Ken Eby, .lim Bowers, Dennis Taylor, Ronme Berg Freshman Basketball The freshman team, coached by Mr. John Richmond won six games and lost eight during the 1958-59 season The games and scores are as follows: We They New Paris lovertimel 34 37 Bremen 40 33' Central 24 39 Bristol 43 37 North Side 24 42 Roosevelt 34 40 Millersburg 43 31 Wakarusa 39 48 Bristol 32 39 Nappanee 51 29 New Carlisle 42 37' Wakarusa 25 29 Middlebury 33 39 Millersburg 25 22 ' Conference The top scorers of the freshman team were Jerry Cook, 133 points, Jerry Fawley, 75 points: Gary Cook, 73 points: Jerry Foster, 65 points. After four years of hard work and fun, they are preparing to leave us. And have they been busy! They worked on the snack bar during the lunch hours, they had concession stands for five foot- ball games and six basketball games, they have been in charge of four sock hops, they sold cans of snow. Their boys have been playing basketball and the girls are in the cheerblock. Of course many seniors can be found on the list of members of many different clubs. They've been busy ordering name cards, announce- ments, graduating gowns, and pictures. They've been busy planning the trip, getting their clothes in order, picking out Broadway shows, planning the route they will take, and saving money like mad. They also worked hard to provide school papers and the yearbook. Many of them are preparing for college and others are planning on getting iobs and staying home. They've had a pretty successful year and Jimtown hopes they will not forget the wonderful memories that are in Jimmie's diary. He received this honor by having lO.53 which is equal to an A average. He studied under a college preparatory course and his favorite subject was history. He entered algebra and geometry contests in his freshman and sophomore years. At the end of his junior year Felder was elected pres- ident of the Student Council for the 58-59 school year. He was in the Letterman's Club and a charter member of the Honor Society. But Felder had time for sports, too. He was in track his freshman, sophomore, and senior years: football his junior and senior years, and was very prominent in varsity basketball his senior year. Felder's main interests include sports such as basketball and football as well as having a lot of fun. l asked Felder to look back over his years in school and tell me just what they meant to him. His answer was a basis for further education. From his reply it sounded like he was going to college, so I checked to see just what he was planning. He is going to the University of Tennessee and will be taking a pre- dental course there. Throughout his years at Jimtown he has demonstrated his large area of activities and interests, and we all hope he will keep up the good work. l'm sure everyone will join with me, the Jimtown Jimmie, in wishing Felder good luck in the future. j t ,X rn' Hanar Student ' Q 5 5 Wh 5,1 The salutatorian of this year's senior class was Gerie Weaver. Gerie had an average of 9.94 which is equal to an A-. He was studying under a college preparatory course and math and history were his favorite subjects. ln his freshman and sophomore years he entered algebra and geometry contests. Gerie was elected the charter president of the Honor Society. He was president of the Chess Club his senior year as well as holding the oftice of vice-president of this year's Student Council. ln his sophomore year he was in track and played B team basketball. Then in his junior year he was on the football team. Carpentry and teaching are Gerie's main interests. He did a little student teaching here at Jimtown during his senior year which will help him by giving him an idea of what real teaching will be like. When Gerie looked back over his years in school so far, he named development as what they have meant to him. ln the word development he included the physical, mental, and social parts. As he looks toward his future, college is included in his plans. He is going to attend Grace College at Winona Lake and he will be taking a moth course there. During his years at Jimtown Gerie has always carried out anything he started, from having a part in the junior class play to a difticult chemistry problem. Let's all try to achieve this quality and say well done and keep up the good work to Gerie. F. Most Popular D. A. R. Winner I 'U 5 I De5owe Albert BeMilIer, Angilee Miller.
