Seventh Grade Thirty-nine boys and girls enrolled in the seventh grade in September. Since then we have had one entry and tive withdrawals, Joe Bowman being the first to withdraw. On November 16th Leona Logan left our group, entering a school near Ligonier. At the close of the first semester we had two with- drawals. James Fisher, a twin brother of John Fisher, withdrew and entered Central at Elkhart. Yvonne Deak entered the Irene Byron Sanatorium at Fort Wayne. The last to leave our group was William McCarty, who moved to Texas. We had quite a duplication of names in our room. We had three named James, three named Robert, three named Richard, two named John, two named Doris, and two named Marjorie. Eight of our boys played on the Junior High School team. James Luse and Richard Kauffman played on the first team. James Luse has been on the high honor roll each period. Due to poor attendance, we haven't had the Best Attendance Banner. We began the year with forty-two pupils. Gordon Mann was the first one to leave us. He moved to Elkhart. Barbara Barnard returned to Elkhart when her father was discharged from the Army, and her parents again began house- keeping. Jimmy Logan moved to Ligonier, Indiana, where his father purchased a filling station. Raymond Ellsworth left us at the beginning of the second semester when he felt he was old enough to quit school. Although we have had no serious epidemics, our attendance has been lowered considerably by colds and pupils staying at home for work. Those who attended school very regularly were Kenneth Bemiller, Mary Cook, Janet Farrell, David Kauffman, Wanda Kindig, Audrey Metcalf, Richard Moore, and Joan Swoboda. Those who did exceptional classwork during the first semester are: Mary Cook, Helen Bickel, Beatrice Maggert, Audrey Metcalf, and Johnny Secor. Some of the class had an enjoyable time arranging a party for the Junior High School basketball team. This party was postponed from February 15th to February 18th because of the snowstorm vacation. Ififth row--Harold Taylor. Donald Troup' Barbara Wade. Sixth Grade The sixth grade has had few changes in its enrollment this year. Ida Hawk and Larry Hale joined the class during the first semester. Bertie England and Robert Pontius withdrew the second semester. Although we tried, we were unable to Win the attendance banner during the entire year. Out of a class of forty-one, only four have had a perfect attend- ance. They are Margie Connon, Joan Schrock, Roger Cook, and Ronald Moore. A few of our group have been on the honor roll during the year. Delores Himes attained it each grading period, and Shirley Bachtel, Barbara Wade, and Phyllis Stickel were on it some time during the year. 30 The 1946 School Bell Echoes
