CLASS HISTORY lt was back in 'ZS that our little rowboat put out upon the Sea of Know- ledge. .Xnd we had a rowboat full too: in fact we had two rowboats and two captains. They were Miss Teal and Miss Beckner. Miss Teal had a crew of twenty-eight and Miss Heekner had a crew of thirteen. Some oi the original members of our crew are still with us but a good iuany have mutiniedesno. but have been forced by circumstances to be trans- ferred to other ships. or give up their papers entirely. llowever. we still have fourteen of our original crew with us. They are: l.aMar .-Xrcher, -lean llash, tienexieve lloll, lfred lfversole. Mary tientzhorn. Orpha lleffner, -lanics Maxwell, l.i-well Moore. Zehna lilll1lllS, Yictor Rader, hlerl Stall- lcy. lflcanor Secor. lfvelyn Stickel and Dayton lYenger. Some others who were nil the original crew and missed only several years or so were: :Xlice l'hillips Ruth liickel. Ned XYarncr and l.owell Paulus. lYe had compara- tively sllhuilll sailing until we reached that important day when we were given our Ship of State and passed out on to a larger Sea of Knowledge. That important day was May 0. lfldo. Then we were each given an inzrortant lvnvliillg' paper and placed under an entirely new command. There were forty nl- us who received these papers. Some of our new officers were ti--ininander of the lfleet. llolben: and under officers. Clyde Notts. .Xlta ll--us--ur. .Xrthur linepp. and XX'ilma .Xbcll. Uur own captain and first inate were t'harles Murphey and Genevieve Doll. That year Bud Rieclt kept Ship! log. .Xll in all. we had smooth sailing until we took shore leave. The next year our captain was changed to Mary ,lean Gentzhorn be- cause of the oss of former captain. Charles Murphy. lfirst mate was changed lo lletty -lune O'Hryant. Our crew was lessened considerably this year for we lost seventeen students. llut to make up for this we gain- ed lietty .lune U'liryant from Mishawaka ll. S. The name of our ship this year was the Sophomore and we were very proud of it. We were changeable enough. for altogether our ship had four names. the former being the l:reshman. The name of our ship wasn't the only thing we were undecided about. The next year our new captain was james Nicholson, a student we wel- comed from Mishawaka. XYe also gained several other new members of our crew but to offset our gains we lost seven valuable members, among them were Ruth Sanderson, Eugene XVeaver and Betty Vernon. This year we gave a drama aboard ship, entitled, Simple Simon Simple and entertained with a banquet those who were being promoted in the near future to a fleet on the great Ocean of Life. Our theme was Sailing and the colors used were their colors. blue and silver with their flowers. the sweet pea. Also in November we received our rings of honor so all may know we saided the Sea of Knowledge as a member of thc fleet of james- town lie 5. This brings Us to the last chapter in our ship's log. Again we chang- ed our captain. this time to Hetty -lune 0'Bryant, and the name of our ship to The Senior. XM- -1-li-ctevl our colors and flower, maroon and white with roses.
