Fw I ' FUTURE FARMERS ' FUTU One of the most active organizations at Battle Ground and one of which Battle Ground can be proud is the FF A. Their achievements this year have been numerous and their con- tributions to Battle Grounds reputation are of no small con- sequence. Twenty-five per cent of the boys in the chapter entered projects in the fair. The cattle-judging teams had a very successful year as did the poultry-judging teams. Luveme Ritter represented Battle Ground at the National FFA Con- vention and Gene Burris was one of two boys chosen to represent Washington in the National FFA Band. During National Education Week the boys had a display at the bank and during National FFA Week they had a dis- play at the feed mill. Also in connection with National FFA Week, Ron Salt, Ted Martin, Bill Uelschi, Frank Williams, and Bob McKinnis appeared on a radio program on KPOI. The parliamentary procedure team placed first in tl'ie,sub- district and district and Won the right to compete in th j e meet at Pullman where they won second place. At the k h ' th- West Washington Field Day the boys won all three ewfents. They held their annual FFA Banquet on March 1, combined efforts with the FHA for a Cow-Barn Shuffle, held a ping- pong tournament, a combination FFA-FHA picnic and a figi- ing trip at the end of the year. Taking the bows as the year's proud officers are: Ron Salt, president, Luverne Bitter, vice-president, Gene Burris, secre- tary, Ted Martin, treasurer. Bob McKinnis, reporter, and Glen Works, sentinel. The boys are advised by Mr. Olmstead, Mr. Caines, Mr. Damewood, and Mr. Schaefer. .qw nt: I-IQMEMAKERS This year, as in no other year, the Futigigrblomemakers of America of Battle Ground was one of thegifl 'prominent and active organizations in the school. This i ' trgely due to the officers, who are: Barbara Brosseau, president, Patty Carlson, vice-president, Shirley Iohnson, secretary, Gladys Hill, treas- urer, Marilyn Sonsteby, social chairman, Vivian Quast, his- torian, and Velda Werner, reporter. Their adviser is Mrs. Englmann. The groups began activities in the fall with a booth at the fair. They prepared and served the food for the FFA Banquet. A Cow-Barn Shuffle was the outcome of the combined efforts of the FFA and the FHA. They hope to make it an annual affair. More than four delegates were sent to the state conference at Bellingham where Marilyn Sonsteby Was elected as regional chairman. The Battle Ground FHA was the largest club attending the district and the state meets. A
