Music Contests The 1986-87 school year was a busy one for the Vocal and Instrumental Music Departments, The year began with pep band performances at home games and a fall concert in Oc- tober. Thirty-two of the choir students were in some way in- volved with the musical South Pacific and spent numerous hours in rehearsals from early September to November 22. In December, the jr.-Sr. High choirs and bands combined for a Christmas concert. Elementary vocal students presented Christmas on Cloud 25. january found the Swing Choir attending the State Contest and receiving a II rating. The Bo-Coon Choral Festival, Nor- thwest Iowa Choral Festival and Honor Bands kept members practicing. In February, Mindee Dausel and Lori Uhl attended piano contest. The Swing Choir placed first out of 14 Class C Schools at the University of South Dakota Coyote jazz Festival, And Spring brought more concerts and contests. BC junior bandsters competed at Buena Vista in Storm Lake in March and finished with 10 top ratings of 1 in solo and ensemble contest! Taking the ones were: fT0p Photoj Suzie Ortman, Becky Winterrowd, Marci Watson, Stef Goodenow, Nate Goodenow, Dawn Young, Marcy Dausel, Denise Weber, Brian Krueger and Heather I-Iinkhouse fNot picturedj. Fifty-seven percent of BCI-IS's entries at the Class C Solo 8c Ensemble contest held at Battle Creek in April rated top marks of I. BC finished with 30 I ratings, 23 II ratings, and no III ratings. Instrumental Students receiving ones and brass choir are pictured in the bottom left photos. Receiving perfect scores in instrumental groups were: Mindee Dausel, Rene Maxwell, and Don Ort- man, Large Group contest was held May 2 at Rockwell City. Girls' Glee fBottom right and second photo from topj received a I rating. The Band, Mixed Chorus, and Boys' Glee received II ratings. May also brought final perfor- mances for Middle School and High School at 8th Promo- tion and Graduation. Vocal students in K-5 performed at Kindergarten graduation.
