During her thirty-six years of teaching, she has participated in many faculty productions and she has been an enthusiastic supporter of all school activities. She is devoted to her family and plans to spend part of her time visiting her brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews. Mr. Henry W. Baker has been teaching chemistry at Central since l9l8. Before he came to Battle Creek he was superintendent of schools in Tekonsha, and then principal of the high school in Marshall. He has developed a great- er interest and appreciation of science in many of his students, who because of his teaching have entered this field of unlimited opportunity. His main interest outside of school is the Exchange Club, where he has been secretory since l935, and where he is now serving as state secretary. He plans to devote much of his future time to this worthwhile organization. A man of deep understanding and friendly humor, Mr. Cornelius VanAndeI has guided many students toward happier lives and more successful futures. Born in Holland, he came to the United States as a young boy, and when the First World War came, he took part in it. His avocation being carpentry, he built his own house and also a house which he plans to rent. Mr. Harlan Colburn is leaving Central after giving thirty-six years of service to the Battle Creek School System. He has taught both woodshop and mechanical drawing classes, and during the Second World War conducted classes in blueprint reading as his contribution to the war effort. His hobby is collecting coins and stamps and he plans to spend much more time on this in the future.
