DEP RTI G DIMENSIIINS Mrs. Tressa Banks, who teaches civics, economics, and U. S. History, is, to the regret of all, leaving B.C.H.S. this year. Mrs. Banks was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and lived there until she graduated from Harrisburg Central High School. She then enrolled at Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, where she received her B.A. and M.A. After commencing her teaching career in Syracuse, New York, she attended the University of Michigan for one year and two summers. Following this, Mrs. Banks went back to Harrisburg to teach. When she married, she went to work as a chemist in the Chrysler plant for two years. Then she moved to Battle Creek and has taught here at Central for twenty-six years. Mrs. Banks, who has been to Europe, now plans to continue her travels. In addition, she says, I also want to do some fishing. Miss Sylvia Schermerhorn, who is also retiring this year, has taught commercial subjects at Central for forty years. During those years she has made many lasting friendships, never to be forgotten. She was born in New Haven, Indiana, and lived there until she reached the age of six. She then moved to Michigan and lived in St. Joseph County, near Colon. She graduated from Colon High School and taught three years in rural schools. Following this, she came to Battle Creek and attended Argubrights Business College. Upon graduation from Argubrights, she came to Central where she taught for eight years. She then attended Western Michigan College for one year and two summers. After completing her work there, she returned to Battle Creek Central to teach. She has remained here for the rest of her teaching career. As for future plans, Miss Schermerhorn is moving to jackson, where she and her sister plan to build a new home. All of us at Battle Creek High School are going to miss Mrs. Banks and Miss Schermerhorn and we assure them that they will always be remembered in the fondest of ways. Page 14
