Mrs. Marie Alwardt, who teaches Food and Nutrition, has taught at Central since l936. During these seventeen years she has made many friends among the students. She has lived in Battle Creek most of her life, attending old No. l Hiqh School and Battle Creek College where she maiored in Medical Dietetics. ln i930 Ann , rx ' was just opening and she was made head of the cafeteria and Foods teache. there. .. , Dr. J. H. Kellogg asked her to go to Miami- Battle Creek Sanatarium in Miami Becch, Flo.. 1 Medical Dietitian. She worked there until l936, when she came to Central. Her future plans include a trip to Mexico in the fall and she will again be Medical Dietitian from January to April at the Sanatarium in Miami Springs. Mrs. Alwardt said that she wants to do all the things she hasn't had time to do, but that she would miss the Contact with her troublesome tf ' ' Mrs. Ava Murray, who is alsr g, has taught for thirty-one years, twenty-eight of them here at Central and the other three at .Id Central Junior high. She has taught mathematics in grades 9-12 all this time. Her Alma Mater is Northwestern University, but she han also attended Universities of Chicago and Michigan, Columbia University and Western Michigan. Mrs. Murray said that she was looking forward to keeping house for her father and husband next year and that she really has no regrets about leaving. She has enioyed her teaching career, as have all her pupils, but she thinks that after this long, it's best that she retire and let a younger person take over her responsibilities, not because she isn't equal to them, but because she feels that the difference in age and experience makes it difficult to establish common ground. Interestingly enough, Mrs. Murray was a member of the first freshman class to enter this building. Her contri- bution to the education and enioyment of school of many students has been considerable. Other teachers who are leaving Central this year are Miss Joan Hedges, Mr. Fred Lax, Miss Virginia Magdanz, Mrs. Aino Nylund, Mr. Alfred Racchini, and Mr. Robert Waldorf. Page l2 Jessie C.
