SECOND ROW: Shirley Francis, Board Member, Don DeNooyer, Assistant Trecsurerg Sally Sclrwzb, Board Monrbzr, FIRST ROW: Jo-Anne Bryant, Treasurer, Dick Davenport, Vice-President, John LaParl, President, Joyce Spyker, Treasurer Senior Board We, the class of l9-48, do solemnly dedicate ourselves to uphold and protect the ideals and principles of democracy which our predecessors gave their lives to establish and pre- serve. lt is with this common pledge that we promise to take our places in society, and to fashion a new world, with the implement of brotherhood, upon whose foundation is built a temple of everlasting peace, Two times the world has been plunged into a universal conflict. Two times men have given their lives to defeat rulers who have had a greed for power. Two times these lives could have been saved. Will there be a third time? The answer to this question rests wholly upon our actions-for we will be the presidents, kings, dictators, the rulers of to- morrow. We will, therefore, have in our possession the power to destroy our own lives, our children's lives, and all mankind, but we shall also have the power to prevent such tur- moil, chaos, and destruction, and to build toward a new world in which peace, security, and understanding prevails. The hope of tomorrow is our challenge of today. Page Eighteen
