Page Six DR. ROGERS v Trustee. Doctor Virgil M. Rogers has spent the last twenty-six years as a teacher and prin- cipal in elementary, junior and senior high schools, and as superintendent of schools. l-le received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Wofford College and his Master of Arts Degree from Western State College of Colorado. l-lis Doctors Degree in Education was awarded at Teachers' College, Colum- bia University. Superintendent Rogers is an active mem- ber of many associations and clubs: the Rotary Club, American Legion, Michigan Education Association, National Education Association, and the American Association of School Administrators. l-le is a member of the following committees in the State Department of Public lnstruction: Advisory Committee of the Camping and Outdoor Education Study, Advisory Committee on Teacher Education and Certification, and the Social Civic Education Committee of Michigan Council on Adult Education. Dr. Rogers has taken the initiative in establishing splendid community-school understanding and cooperation. We have enjoyed the guidance Dr. Rogers has given us and wish to express our appreciation to him for helping to make our high school years such happy and profitable ones. SCHOOL BOARD MR, EDWIN L. Mr. Paul Halverson received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa and his Master of Arts De- gree at the University of Minnesota. Prior to becoming principal of Battle Creek High School in l946, Mr. Halverson taught in Janesville, Minnesota and at the Mankato State Teachers' College. He has also been principal of the Owatonna High School in Owatonna, Minnesota and the W. K. Kellogg Junior High School here. The Exchange Club, Michigan Education Association, National Education Associa- tion, Association Supervision and Curricu- lum Development, American Association of Secondary School Principals, State Second- ary School Committee of Michigan, and the Southwestern Michigan Association of Col- lege Agreement for High Schools are among the organizations to which Mr. Halverson belongs. Mr. Halverson has served as friend, ad- viser, and co-worker to both students and faculty for the past two years. We wish to express our gratitude for his deep sincerity in promoting the welfare of all students and for the guidance he has generously given. We will remember him with much pleasure in the future years for his complete under- standing of our problems. MISS PENTY MR, POSTMA MR, HALVERSON Many Central girls have benefited by Miss Ruth Penty's interest in solving their prob- lems. The Student Council, with her assistance, has also undertaken many worthwhile projects. As Dean of Girls and Adviser of the Student Coun- cil, Miss Penty has given valu- able guidance to both groups. Mr. John Postma has shown genuine and sincere concern about the problems of the boys at Central through his work as Dean of Boys. His active inter- est in the Veteran's program and his help in planning the commencement exercise have been greatly appreciated. Page Sevew
