Qtzrse Cru- 1944 - 1945 3339, the graduating class of 1945, of Battin High School, Elizabeth, county of Union, State of New Jersey, being of unmen- tionable age, and sound.f?J mind.and short-livedxnemory, do make, publish, and declare this to be our First Will and Testament. Item I-We direct that all our budget payments and senior ex- penses be paid by the juniors as soon as possible after our departure. Item 2-To you, enthusiastic juniors, we bestow the honored title of seniors. May you continue cooperation with Jefferson where we left off. I-tg Q-To the bewildered sophs, we leave the energy to carry on till escalators, elevators, and ladders become a reality. Item 4-For you, faculty, we just leave. Perhaps, you may reach the cafeteria in safety for the first time in many years. Item Q--In appreciation of services rendered, we would like to intrust to future students certain characteristics so outstand- ing in members of this class: The 99.44 per cent participation in school activities and leadership of Margaret Kessler to Ruth Kolakowski . To any aspir- ing journalist, the patience, ingenuity, and gray hairs required to meet a High Spots deadline. Relieving Claire Reinherz of the headaches and numerous tasks that fall on the shoulders of editor-in-chief of Red and White, we burden capable Harriet Lockwood, along with a pair of roller skates to get around to the separate staffs. Catherine Chussler places the flag into Helen Pyatak's hands, so she may carry it with the other duties of the Service League. To Dorothy Furness, Arlene Neu, and the other promis- ing junior athletes, the opportunity to become champs and cheer- leaders to beat the exceptional record of the present seniors. Carmen Gonzales, prima ballerina, bows out of the spotlight in favor of Jean Starr. To Jane Lawless and Mary Menter we uhand- over the artistic talent found in the fingers of Betty Halbeisen and Kathleen McElhinney. To argumentative juniors, the chance to prove their point in Senior Honor Forum. To the stage stars of the future, the ad- vantage to improve their budding talent in Senior Honor Dramat- ics as Evelyn Freedberg and Louise Bracuto have so ably done. To Ruth Greenwood, Marjorie Deiner in glee club, and Doris Stark and Pauline Schillinger from band and orchestra, the responsi- bility of maintaining the high standard of the music department so well sustained by Margaret Wislotski, Marie Martins, Margery Loeser, and Constance Boublis. Jean Sternheimer and Naomi Pryor gladly bequeath to Betty Klawunn and Santa Fortunato their tattered aprons and the duty of rising at the ncrack of dawnn to distribute the newspapers. To even things up, Dorothy Van Dyke Nchops offn a few inches to donate to Anne Conroy, while Mary'Roselli would like to take some of Sylvia Turk's nskyscraper height.n To the many who feel that his songs, bow ties, and sighs shall be immortal, we leave the pleasure of swooning, screaming, and waiting in lines for Frank Sinatra. Helen Leventhal and Irene Kennedy relinquish some of their ability of keeping everyone in a good humor to Joanne Johnson and Thelma Seip. We, as representatives of this senior class, do hereunto set our hand this first day of April, 1945, A.D. Wi tnes se s Antoinette Di Cecco Barbara Kalinski Midam Shapiro Elsie Lifclnetz Celia Mantia
