This loss, which counted as a district game, was in the annual STAMA Jamboree. The loss was a setback to Bulldog pride. The next week the Bulldogs suffered a loss to their old schoolmates, Tara, by a score of 6-0. The Dogs, meeting their old teammates for the first time, wore decisive underdogs. The Mean Green showed the first sign of strength for the year by holding the powerful Tara offense, led by Terry Hill, scoreless for three quarters. The Dogs made a last desperate attempt to score hut failed because the referee ruled time ran out on the field although the broken scoreboard said otherwise. | • But Came on Strong Next foe for the Bulldogs was the former LIALO member, McKinley High, who the Bulldogs pounded by a score of 27-6. Don Hood and Butch Freeman each scored two touchdowns as Mark Haile went three for four in the extra point conversions to close out the scoring. After the sweet taste of victory, the dogs plavcd the always tough Istrouma High Indians. Jim Black scored on the only touchdown of the game with a three yard plunge in the third quarter as the Bulldogs scalped the Indians 7 0. This was the fifth time in the past seven years that the Bulldogs have defeated the Indians. Outstanding players in the game we're Jim Black, Butch Freeman, Scott Simoneaux, and Don Hood. Leftovers Tasted Prettj After two straight victories the Dogs were on the i .vo. Playing against highly favored Glen Oaks, the illdogs look an early 7-0 lead hut that was soon rased on a pass interception. The dogs blew several 1st quarter scoring chances and had to settle for a 7-7 deadlock. Next victim of BKHS was another LIALO Mem- •r. Scotlandvillc High. Mark Haile accounted for len of the Dogs' fifteen points as the Mean Green defense unit led by Don Padgett. Eddie Crews, and Butch Freeman held the Hornets scoreless until the last quarter. For the first time this year the Go Dog I nit offense showed signs of coming into its own. I be game ended a Bulldog victory 15-6. With 4-5-2 Record After three wins, two losses, and a tie the Bulldogs faced a tough task in over taking the league leading Baker High Buffaloes. L’j until the Bulldog game no one had come close to heating or even tying the 4-AAAA champs. The Bulldogs came fired up to play and the trip to Buffland proved to he one of the most deserving games of 1970. Coach McGraw was proud of his K-9's and after the game he told them to treat it like a victory. The gallant Bulldogs did not win even though it was the biggest upset of the year in our district. The final was a 0 0 tie. Next week's foe was the last former LIALO member Capitol High. Led by a great passing attack the Bulldogs could not stop tin- Golden Lions. The Dogs held a 14-12 lead until the last five minutes when Capitol scored to stymie the Bulldogs' hopes for a playoff spot. The final score read Capitol IB — BRHS 14. “Go Dog Unit” and “Mean Green Opponent number eight lor BRHS was eventual district runner-up Broadmoor High School. This was a very emotional game for our seniors as it was their very last homecoming at BRHS. The Dogs held their own until the fourth quarter when the bubble burst and Broadmoor scored two quick touchdowns to end the Dogs’ hopes lor an upset. The game ended with a 27-6 loss for the Bulldogs. The next week the Dogs came charging back against the Lee High Rebels. The Dogs jumped to an early lead of 7-0 but the Rebs came back in the fourth quarter, close to the end of the game, to make the score 7-6. After a missed two point conversion the Dogs came home with another victory by a one point margin. 180 Combine for a Successful Year The last game of the year came on Friday the thirteenth in November. The Dogs traveled to Fast Ascension where the seniors played their last football game for BRIIS. The game was the worst of the year as far as the weather was concerned. The rain poured as loyal Bulldog fans stayed in the freezing cold to see the Dogs fall to a 13-0 loss. Despite this loss the Dogs ended up sixth in district to surprise everyone in the league. Many times this season the dogs were down but in the tradition of old Bulldog teams of the past they never stopped fighting. 181 Football Banquet Honored Top Dog’s (top) Right to left: Top Dug G arh Leon Mc-Graw; Dwight Boenke — Sportsmanship Award Don Hood — Best Offensive Bac k Award.
