D ucts F. Bu g Quiet, but most efficient Mr. Dennis F. Rtirg exercised his administrative duties with assurance. His outstanding ability to operate a school such as Raton Rouge High with such a high degree of organization has helped to make this school an outstanding one for the past twelve years. 18 J A Bacot, Assistant Principal, is most often remembered by the students as the school disciplinarian. Mfo Pije Ltotek Ckuxd u, Assistant Principal, devoted most of his time each day to the needs of teachers. His willingness to listen and confer with an individual often helped one in distress to overcome the problems of a regular school day. 19 A CALUTETO' Uo P. A remarkable organizer of pep groups, known near and far. is Mrs. Sarah Edwina Prescott. Plus building a “spirit machine” during the past 21 years at BRHS, she has served well as guidance counselor. It is this sort of person—an institution—whose absence leaves us sad that she’s gone, but happy that she will continue to contribute greatly to the education of young people. MRS. The loss ended a 16-vear winning streak for BRHS in the annual Jamboree. The following week the Dogs were plagued by fumbles and a fired-up Lafayette squad. Two of the Dogs’ fumbles led to Lion scores. The Dogs could not really generate an offeuse and fell to the Lions by a score of 20-0. One bright spot for BRHS was the play of sophomore Terry Hill, who intercepted a pass, recovered a fumble, and made several tackles. 210 The Bulldogs showed considerable improvement against tough LaGrange. The Dogs held LaGrange to one TD in the 1st half and lied the score at 6-6 when taking the second half kickoff 75 yds. in 15 plays. The Dogs’ first TD of the season came on a 10-yd. toss from quarterback. Hamp Grune-wald to end Lee Herrington: however, the Gators wasted no time getting back on the scoreboard. The Dogs had several good drives going but the Gators defense stopped them and the Dogs for a 21-6 win. The K-9’s finally broke into the win column against an outclassed Pineville. The Rebels couldn’t even manage a score, while Bulldogs: Holmes. Grunewald. and Schcffy all passed the goal line for BRHS. Holmes scored on a run: Grunewald. a pass, Scheffv. on interception: and Chuck Smith, with three extra points. Top left: Fullback Vaughn Stroble slipped through the middle for five yds. against Lafayette. Left: Bulldog Dale Snoddy nabbed Redemptorist receiver in Jamboree. Bottom right: Cruncwald rolled out for 12 yd. gain against the Bucs. The next Bulldog opponent was Broadmoor, the top team in District 3-AAA. The Dogs fought stubbornly in the first half allowing Broadmoor’s potent offense just one TD. -However, two costly fumbles by BRHS in the 3rd quarter allowed the Bucs two more TD’s. The Dogs did not give up; however, they fought back and scored early in the 4th period with Grunewald passing to Herrington. The Bucs were just too much: they scored again, making the final score 28-6. The Dogs played their worst game of the season against the Spartans of East Ascension. Nevertheless, the Canines fought back valiantly with a third period TD drive. Grunewald, Carlson, Stroble, and Holmes led the Bulldogs down to the EA half yard 'in.. 1.1—kmf1- 1......... ■...-J Th - 1 ]0% An inspired BRHS stymied Catholic High for a half before yielding after the half. It appeared for a while that Coach Leon McGraw’s Canines might pull off a stunning upset. The Dogs were unable to continue their valiant 1st half effort and yielded to the powerful Bears, who scored three times in the last half to win 21-0. After three straight District losses the Dogs were ready for a great effort. BRHS opened the scoring against Glen Oaks with Gruncwald passing to Freeman in the 2nd quarter. The Dogs dominated the first half, but the Panthers managed to score just before half time. They missed the extra point and for the second time this year the Dogs were leading at the half. The second half went the same with the Dogs dominating the game, but not scoring. Late in the game the Panthers scored robbing the Dogs of a victory. I 213 Y CM Dogs The Baker game was much like the Glen Oaks game. The Dogs dominated the action, but were unable to put any points on the scoreboard. The Buffs scored late in the second and fourth quarters to snuff out the Dogs 14 0. The next BRHS foe was Lee who was having as rough a year as we were. This was to be the big battle for the cellar in District 3-AAA. The Dogs won the cellar by losing to the Rebels 12-0 on a muddy field. To make the defeat worse for Coach McGraw, it was his old assistant Jim “Hawk” Keaton, who coached the Rebs. For the third straight week the Dogs were beaten by a team that had never beaten them before. 214 QhcM Rise Next came the annual grudge battle with the Dogs’ biggest rival, Istrouma. The Indians scored three times before the half to take a commanding lead; however, the Dogs came back fighting in the second half. Grunewald capped an 8 yd. drive with a sprint around left end to score in the closing minutes. The Redmen still won by 20-6. The Dogs were young and inexperienced this year; nevertheless, they did not give up. They constantly fought back and showed their true winning spirit. Many juniors and sophomores played this year and Coach McGraw is looking for a really good season next year.
