Team management was an integral part of team success. After a pre-season showing of 6-0 over the Gonzales boys, the Hulldogs traveled to Lafayette for their first of four road games. On the initial kickoff, John Stafford returned a Lion fumble down to their 10 yardline. Mack hit paydirt two plays later from the 6. and Comeaux made the winning FAT on his second try. Late in the fourth quarter Lafayette managed to score, but the after kick was wide, and when Scheuermann pounced on a futile Lion on-sides kick with 2:38 left, one point was a mighty big one! 202 This pair combined for 25 points live PKMS Men Made AH-Parish Zearn In its first 1968 home-showing, BRHS downed La Grange for the first time in several years. Mack scored on passes of 16 and 26 yards, one from Mark, one from Johnny. Comeaux was good for one PAT and a 23 yard field goal. “Mr. Miller,” whose fumble recovery set up our second I'D, and Brantley, whose last minute interception of a Gator ball really saved it all, excelled defensively. It was BRHS 16, La Grange 10. through out the season. (Upper Left) 1968 Bulldog tackles; Ted Mack (76) and Allen Miller (72) made the All-Parish team. (Center) Mack carried against La Crangc and (Left) against Lee. (Above) Scott Nealy, All-Parish center. We Won Vivo. Back on the road again, the K-9’s invasion of Pineville proved destructive as “Jocko” ran away with 3 TD’s. Have Kingrea, recipient of a 20 yard TD toss, and Vaughn Stroble, 1 yard TD plunger, combined with team to humiliate a highly ranked AA power. The long trip home was sweet by 33-7. Next came the threat of Kadi and the Bucs. As we kicked off our district play, the dog defense looked strong in containing Broadmoor to 7 points while the offense scored 23 on the efforts of Brantley, T.orio, Stroble and Comeaux. This brought the Bulldogs to a 5-0 record for half the season and 1-0 in district play. 204 Two weeks of ill-fortune were destined to plague the Bulldogs. Twice in a row, hapless Dog ll’s dropped 13 point leads to lose by 1. Littlejohn scored from 2 yards out and Fred Mack made a fine end zone catch of a 42 yard Varisco bomb, but things just didn't turn out right. Against Catholic High. Lorio scored on an 11 yards pass from Varisco, and Comeaux kicked field goals of 23 and 32 yards plus 1 PAT. 205 Comeaux strode, Stroblc stumbled in Gonzales outing. All parish safety, John Brantley in action against IHS. In what has been termed the best comeback in Memorial Stadium's history, BRHS climbed from 20 points in the hole to best Glen Oaks by 8. A thrilled homecoming crowd viewed the courageous second half performance with TD’s by Varisco (2), Mack, and Carlson. Balter was the next victim as the Green Machine steam rolled for 314 yards making it look real easy. Of six hurlers in the contest, Hamp Grunewald managed the only completion in a game of rushing yardage. Each of the other five (2 K-9’s) managed an interception each. Dumigan for BRIIS turned one of these into a 35 yard scoring scamper, and Littlejohn, Keller and Brantley each added scores. McQrawmen Peg Season Mark Carlson ripped off a 10 yard TD to boost homecoming comeback. Jubilant after Baker, locker room told the game’s story All Parish end and defensive captain Dave Kingrea intercepts an 206 At 7-2-1; Jimsked 3rd ]n District BRHS ran into a fircd-up Rebel squad, stingy on defense. On its only march of the outing, BKHS moved 70 yards with Jocko scoring once again. In the traditional arch-rivalry which drew a record crowd, BRHS and Istrouma battled to a tie ball game that many swear was won by three points. Littlejohn ran for 6, Smith and Comeaux converted once each, in scoring efforts. With less than one minute left, Comeaux booted the best “No-good” 33 yard 3 pointer many have seen as HRHS wound up third in district. Istrouma manages a TD (Lefi); Mack over lop for IHS game TD. 207 Indian pass for a gain of 33 and a TD.
