Dedication A flood of mail must be sorted each day — most of which requires Mr. Burge’s personal attention. Visitors need not be surprised when they find Mr. Burge advising students as they wait in lunch lines. For the past ten years, Mr. Dennis F. Burge has served continuously as the principal of Baton Rouge High School. Within that time he has served as overseer for all school activities and has done an excellent job in promoting the highest ideals at Baton Rouge High School. He is forever busy with his responsibilities; yet, you may be sure, that he always finds time for a word with everyone. Therefore, it is with great admiration and highest esteem that we dedicate this yearbook to him on this his Tenth Anniversary. Fur relaxation, our principal enjoys golf. They represent those young people of the Senior Class who hold prominent offices in city, parish, or state organizations; those students who became National Merit Semi-Finalists through hard work, dedication, and study. They exemplify those diligent, zealous workers who have won scholarships and also—those athletes who have the determination and zest to put BRIIS on top. And, also, they stand for all those students who—through no outstanding way—have shown their school loyalty, but love BRHS just the same. 30 Roger Abbott Smitty Acrec Linda Adams Bruno Alcocer Sandra Ahazin April Anderson John Anderson Joyce Andrew Doyle Alexander Raymond Anselmo Climb Every Mountain Dana Arnold Bill Ashby SMITTY ACREE—Sophomore Jeau, Spanish Club, Student Council. Craig Bums scored in the 4th quarter on a pass from Joe Zcppuhar, and Jerry Scott converted for the final Bulldog point. Baton Rouge 12 Lafayette 0 Ricky Kingrea hulled his way over for two touchdowns, each from the 1, to give the Dogs the winning margin. This was the Dogs’ first win under new head coach Leon McGraw. Lafayette tacklere stop Rick after big gain. Baton Rouge 28 Bolton 7 The Bulldogs easily overran Bolton as Joe Lee Zcppuhar chunked 3 touchdown passes— two to Burns and one to Sand ers. Craig Burns scored the other touchdown on a 3-yard plunge. The Green Machine racked up 349 yards total offense. 145 Don Ray Breaux leads interference for a fleet Craig Bums. Broadmoor 17 Against Broadmoor Mike McKay reaches in dismay as the ball missed its mark. Baton Rouge 6 Catholic High 7 in a heartbreaking upset the Catholic High Bears got a second chance to kick their 7th point which spelled doom for the Bulldogs. Bruce Flowers blocked a Catholic High punt and Rene Esnard recovered the ball in the end zone for the Dogs’ only score. Baton Rouge 6 Finding it hard to run against the best defensive line in the district, Baton Rouge could chalk up but one score lute in game. This game followed tradition as the Bulldogs have yet to be victorious over the Buccaneers in three meetings. Mike McKSy scored from the two on the last play of the game. Bruce Flowers 146 Baton Rouge 14 East Ascension 13 This was the Bulldogs’ comeback game, and no one would ever beat them again. Mike McKay scored the first touchdown on a seven yard blast. Behind 13 7 in the fourth period, the Dogs drove for their final score. Now ahead 11-13. the rugged BRHS defense stopped the Spartan drive at the Bulldog 19-yard line, copping their first district win. Part of the great defense that came through when it was needed most. Baton Rouge 7 I ce 0 6’5” “Apple” Sanders made a spectacular catch of a pass from quarterback Buddy Porta for the game’s only score as Baton Rouge rolled to its second big district victory. Highly touted Mike Anderson was only second in ground gaining to our Ricky Kingrea. Baton Rouge 22 Baker 7 Baton Rouge's breather was just that as the Bulldogs easily outplayed a weak Baker team. Our defensive line held Baker to a negligible amount of yardage on the ground. 147 blocks a Catholic High punt. Glen Oaks 6 Baton Rouge 13 In what was considered an upset by some, the Bulldogs soundly beat the undefeated, highly ranked, and No. 1 District 3-AAA leader Glen Oaks on a muddy field at Memorial Stadium. Paul Hart was the hero of this game, intercepting a pass and returning it some 52 yards. Soon after that he plunged over the goal line for the score, and Baton Rouge High had shown at that time that it was at least third best in the district. Baton Rouge 7 Istrouma 6 For the third straight year Baton Rouge High proved which side of the tracks played the best football. Craig Burns made two key interceptions, his 3th and 9th of the season. Ricky Kingrea leaj ed over the top of the charging lines for the touchdown, and Jerry Scott provided the winning margin with the 1-point conversion. This, your 1967 FRICASSEE, is a permanent record of your days at BRHS. By rememliering a few of our favorite things, wc will always be able to recall Baton Rouge High. An edited yearbook is the result of hard labor and cooperation by many people. To my two sponsors, Mrs. Stevenson, and Mrs. Sheffield who shared most of the responsibility—go my sincerest gratitude for all of their help and guidance. Without their supervision, very little could have been accomplished. The cooperation of Mr. Fred Elsing and his son, Mr. Fred Elsing, Jr., our Taylor Publishing Co. representatives, certainly helped us to maintain a steady run of things. I also extend my thanks to the State Times —Morning Advocate, and to Rembrandt's Studio for all the help, services, and cooperation which they have given us this year. To our 97 advertisers, goes my deepest thanks—for without their support an annual is nothing. Please support those who support you.
