HELVESTON Principal With humble pride and grateful hearts, we dedicate our yearbook this year to our principal, Mr. 0. M. Helveston . . . because he dares to do and to dream in a time when too many have lost their vision . . . and because the shining strength of his faith in those deeds and dreams makes them so real to us. To the students of BRHS and especially to the Seniors, our Assistant Principal, Mr. Lacy E. Davis, has been an inspiration. He performed his duties in a capable, cheerful, and efficient manner, always urging us on to greater heights in scholastic and extra- curricular activities. By praising us, by de- fending us, and correcting when We were wrong, Mr. Davis merits the respect of the whole student body. MISS FRANCES DUNBAR MR. LACY E. DAVIS, Assistant Principal Miss Frances Dunbar, Well-loved Science teacher at Baton Rouge High School, is retiring after more than 40 years of faith- ful, efficient service. She will ever be re- membered for the untiring help she gave to her students, even after school hoursg for her work on the books in the officeg and last but not least, as a true friend to all. May she have a happy life in her retirement and may she think of us sometimes as we will all keep a cherished place for her in our memories. 5? 22,222 2 1 2 2 2 22 2 22 2222222222 22222-2,,Uw,2, ..2,2,-22-222222222 U.222,g L2 ,MW .22 22 2 2-222, 2 2 2 2 f M 2 22 2 Q ,G E S U X2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 X 2 2 2525555285552525221222-::5:me'z22?252552212 'K-f2wY222235X92?i5g93gg?25isg,E'Q2? .22w,.2,,x 2 2 2 2 2 2 E , 2, 2, 2 2 E 2 ,egg S, 2 K 22 222222222522122w222fgaxgffs222221222 f 52252,222122222222v22,,2g,222222, 2211225222 2 2 2 P 2 2 2 2 Q 22222m222222s21gr22f222222222 x:z'12:21U2 2 2,i222,,s22ie2222fm222wff222m 2-2212222222222 22 2 22252221222522222::22zv--:ver2122222221ff 2:22m1121222ff2g2225s2eg221 22 222222-222212 2222,22,:ff2fff2f2,22222221222 221:22 222122-221: .2 2 , .222-2222212222-2222e1,, 1-4 ------ 2 222 2 2, 1222222222221 L 2 .22mM522225,a2 .,,,..:. ,,,,,ff2.- 2222.22222ef,222ff2f222 I T 2 2 22,2,U-M.l2,2:f2.23m f:5f'iiE?525I597 ' i'i 'l i'5i 35935551555 if ,1t252,5sisfe s22i2'ff2f22 X 575:21 f -2- , af 2 rem-2ff2is23ff2s1sai::4s:.',5, 112 , 5, 2 2 28 K , ' W 2 52:4 2 2 2 2 H ifesziiwszfaz'esiseszzmfssgly 225222551421 2, S 2,2 2 2, 2 2 2 2 2525 22 3 3 2 1 t, ,,g2g22222ggE2? fi 22 2 imfszffgw .2w2222- 2 2 X A 9, 22222 2 2 S,,2?222:2f2m22'fff1fffz2szzsszs1'f2z: 2 2z1w2f121s222vs K 2 2 2--,2f21222222f12,.22, LS 2 2 2 2 2,,.22,22222222w2f222212221221121wt22 22222221222-2La222122 2 2 2 2 sze?2g5g22ggggg22,.2 K 5 2,,s2.2,.2mr22:r 2 2 2 l2i25e?iefz22z221sr 42 , 222i2,2'?ew9?si2iwezfss11'ivzwv,-222 U2 2 g925f22wi52?Tf25gK2 S22 2 2 22 H 2 52 2,,,2Q5,M,,2M.2L ,,.,,2,gyf1225522,g2,,., 2 2 2.2,,22,g2122zf-222251222 22 2222212225522,222ezX2122zef2ss2,,2-'22 K ,Q 22 R X 3 X 22,222222a 1 22 2 2 2 , 2 2 ,:s2zg,2,g:2?gf2gf55g 1-f22:2:22222:W22v22f22,2?i22 S f 2 S -522wi2is?Zv221:27gSv 2 2223424152224-esiseevfeiwilfxiiss1,19 222 2 L2 222 222fem5E2?2a' ,222 2 2 . . 2 22 2 2 1222222 GWEN FREDERlCAEditor GLORIADEL ALLEN-Co-Editor CAROLYN WOODFIN- Business Manager 2 -vw' Carroll Sharon Stella Helaine Sherrill Bobby Miss Millet Beale Beckham Stone Tuite Levy Winans Sponsor Advertising Feature Literary Picture Typist Photographer Manager Editor Editor Editor 2 Shirley Nancy Gayle Eleanor Nita Carolyn Tom Powell GHSSOI1 LiRocchi Brewer Wilson Lalumandier Martin of' ef--film , N 1 , ff ' J - 1, I X. r l':.?1 f SW wig - Egg? THE KING'S PROCLAMATION All citizens of .think back to the past years and remember -. . . A Once in the littlelvillage of B.R.H.S., there lived a King Helveston and his proud, happy subjects.l They all had reason to be proud since they had won much recognition in various things. The royal troupe GTHESPIANSH did a fine joh of presenting many dramas and comedies in the Bulldog Theatre. Often the citizens honored the Kingis famed forces,i. better known as the Mighty Bulldogs, by giving banquets and balls. Many times these men had a brave fight but still brought the King and the citizens victory and glory. They proved how great they were when one of their own teammates was chosen All-American. There were also or- ganizations which helped and presented the town with activities. The Mu Sigma carnivals, Twirp Week, the Junior-Senior proms, and the beauty pageants. All highlighted the citizens' lives. The royal musicians along with the marching army, better known as Band and Boosters, also entertained the subjects on various occasions. The ladies of the township joined the F.H.A., where they spent many happy hours with sewing bees, conversation exchange and recipesi The citizens parliament is responsible for improvements in the village. They founded the recrea- if tion center, called Rurnpus Room. They also gave us our honored mascot, 'gButch.', Having looked hack on this village and its activities, we hereby ,proclaim that this class of '57 is the best in the kingdom of Baton Rouge High in Louisiana. ww Y ., my M H '- ' wiv.: V A f 3, l I r W,,-.-- ,w,,,Mff 5 2 a !
