Alton Barksdale, Russell Klein| etcr, Tommy |ackson, R. J. Bourgeois, Gene Hargrover. and Cecil Jenkins. This year the Baton Rouge Bulldogs completed its most successful season since 1911. With true Bulldog spirit, determination, and excellent coaching, the team brought home not only the much coveted City Championship but also four wins, three ties, and only two losses. This fine record established the football team as one of the l cttcr teams of the state. In the first game of the year the Bulldogs trekked up to McComb. The Tigers were lucky to esca|)c with a 12-12 tic. for the Buidogs outplayed them from whistle to whistle. Then after a week, the Bolton Bears journeyed from Alexandria to play the spirited Bulldogs. Although they were leading most of the game, the Beats were overtaken in the final minutes of play. Here again the Bulldogs gained a tie with a final score of 19-19. In the next game Baton Rouge High scored its first win of the season. The Jesuit Blue Jays, after leading for two quarters, were put into a fit of turmoil when a pass from Watson to Bourgeois gave the Bulldogs the game at a score of 13-6. The following Friday night, the Bulldogs upset the do| c sheet and trounced the Lake Charles Wildcats 20-13. This is the game in which speedy Cecil Jenkins, star center, intercepted a pass and rated 85 yards for a score. Next week, the Bulldogs returned home to meet the highly touted Bogalusa Lumlrerjacks. Although Baton Rouge High scored first, it was not long before the |»owcrful Bogalusa attack overcame the score and beat the Bulldogs 26-14. I his was the only district loss for the Bulldogs this year. On Homecoming night, the Bulldogs made up for the loss to Bogalusa COACHES C. I- Gilbert O. M. Helves ton

Golf Team David Rclnn. David Cueymard, Bobby Neames, Jinnm Pecoraro, Richard L’Hcrrison. Our Golf Story — Baton Rouge High’s golf team has contributed more honors to the schools record in athletic participation. Members of the four man team are Bobby Neames. Jimmy Pecoraro, Davis Gueymard. and Charlie Mclnnis. In 'P.l the team won the second place award in the State Rally, showing fine sportsmanship and spirited playing. Baton Rouge High’s Jimmy Pecoraro turned in a fine record of placing on the green, and was runner up to Byrd High's Tommy Morrow for lop individual honors. The Bulldogs have a much improved team this year and will 1m- trying to add their fiist State Championship to the Bulldogs’ list ol wins.

Baton Rouge obtained the ictory l a score of 28-7. thus hurdling the lirst milestone in the race for the City Championship. In the Sulphur game, the Bulldogs climbed into the killer role, and tied the famous Tornadoes, who had set to h» c a game. When the final whistle blew the score read B. R. II. S. •». Sulphur t . After a week’s test the Bulldogs slipped against Ouachita. Only the defensive play of Wat Brummctt and Cetil Jenkins kept the score from being any worse than I l b. On Thanksgiving, the Bulldogs stalked out into the field and unlimberetl their guns against the defenseless Istrouma Indians. In their Ix-st game of the season, the Bulldogs brought home the turkey in the form of the cherished lity Championship. Ibis was the fitst game plaved by B. R. II. Shrimp Bowl 15 -BRHS- I.titling his most successful season in football at Baton Rouge High. R. J. Bourgeois earned many honors. He was selected as an end on the VII-State Team and earned a Ik-iill on the All-City Team. Besides sharing the honor of Most Valuable” player on the B.R.H.S. team, he also icceived the Star of Stars and Mom Outstanding Lineman awards on the All-City team. S| ccdy fullback. Merlin Darousc, displayed some of the finest football playing at Baton Rouge High this year. In the Shrimp Bowl game-won liv Baton Rouge High. Merlin, having stored two of the Bulldog's touchdowns and excellent ability on olfense. received the outstanding Plavei Ward, lie was selected as a member of the All-City fitst team and has lettered for the second year.
