I Iii loving memory and sincere appreciation of her twenty years of loyal, enthusiastic service, Baton Rouge High School dedicates the 1910 f ricassee to Miss Irene B. Pujol. Miss Pujol was head of the Romance Languages’ Department and teacher of French and Spanish for twenty years; faculty advisor of the “Honor Club. and of “I.as Estrallas, Spanish Club, and sponsor of Gamma Theta, high school social sorority; donor ol the annual diamond football award to the most valuable football player; donor of the furnishings in the teacher’s lounge, in memory of her mother; a staunch and loyal friend to the teacher and pupil alike; and an enthusiastic booster and champion of all that |x. rtaincd to the promotion and advancement of athletics, scholarship, or culture. Identified intimately as she was with every phase of school activity and keenly alert and zealous for the honor and credit ol “Baton Rouge High,” she leaves an indelible imprint of her vivid personality upon all who have had the happy privilege of association with her. Although diminutive in stature, a familiar and outstanding figure was she at our every gathering or contest, where she Stood out from among us—leading the vanguard, were it the procession of the teachers on graduation night to sit in the front row; or were it the assembly of the students to arouse enthusiasm by her inimitable “| ep” talks on the eve of an im|x rtant football game. For one’s troubles or difficulties she had always a kindly and sympathetic-ear. Her sincerity, frankness, and outspoken comments and fearless champion-ship of what she considered the right won for her the rcs|x. ci and admiration of all. Imbued with the zest of living and with the rare ability of getting much even from the commonplace, the “Senorita” ever brought back with her a limitless fund of interesting and educational experiences from her extensive travels and studies in far away Italy, France, and Spain; from Vermont, New York, Chicago, and California; and from Old Mexico, Cuba, and the South Seas. “Frcnchic” to older faculty intimates, “Miss Irene to former pupils, and “Senorita” to present day pupils and later faculty additions OlIR “Miss Pujol” remains a most lovable character, a tangible memory that lingers on and on to make richer and broader our store of fond experience and our appreciation of lovable human qualities.
