This year the boys’ team was very successful. They tied for 1st in the Conference, placed 2nd in the Sectional which advanced them to the Regional. In the Regional the team wasn't as suc- cessful as they would have hoped to be, and they failed to advance. On the other hand, though, Junior, George Molinsky placed third and did advance. The Batesville High School Marching Band The band is a multi-faceted group of instrumental musicians, most of whom take band as a credit class. Although the band meets during the school day, its main emphasis lies in performance. The band as a mar- ching band performs theme shows, precision drill shows, and corp-style shows at home football games. They perform in area parades and for all community parades. They occa- sionally do a marching show at basketball games. The band as a concert band performs light popular music including show tunes, T.V. and movie themes, Top 10 Hits; serious, classically oriented transcriptions, con- cert marches, overtures, suites, con- temporary compositions and other accepted and acknowledged masterworks of the concert band literature. The concert band com- petes in the spring and hosts the district contest. It also puts on a winter and spring concert in conjunction with the Middle School Bands. Individual students compete in January or February at solo to ensemble contest with many students receiving superior or “'l’’ ratings. The stage band is a select group off-sho ot which performs primarily oat basketball games. Its repetoire includes rock, jazz, and pop tunes played with Above “gusto.” Band members also perform as in- dividuals for their churches and in other local musical groups. The band raises money through a fall magazine sale, November cheese and sausage sale, and from the sale of pizza kits sponsored by the Music Boosters. We have a new advisor who is Mr. Larry Lemen. This year we have people assigned in different groups. Our Business manager is Vicki Pachuta and Co- editor, Brenda Back. We sold $200 worth of ads more than last year. Students paid $16.00 per book, but the total cost for the making of each of the books was nearly $26.00. The graduates entered the foorball field while the band played ‘Pomp and Circumstance’. The senior class officers Kim Berggren, Patti Crowell, Dan Nobbe, and Dennis Siebert took the audience on an interesting ride down memory lane, recalling experiences from their freshman to their senior years of high school. The graduating girls with their long-stermmed red roses and boys with their red rose boutonnieres listened to Shelly Dickey as she sang “Old and Wise’’. The graduating class of 1984 shared their special occasion with the class of 1934, which was celebrating its fiftieth anniversary of their high school graduation.
