Bulldog °83- BULLDOG Volume 63 Batesville High School Batesville, Indiana 47006 Table of Contents Student Life Freshmen Administration and Sports Faculty Organizations Seniors Advertising Juniors Sophomores Another Start After a summer filled with swimming, sun- bathing, summer jobs and many other things; the students of Batesville High School came back to school for another year. Last year’s Seniors were gone, replaced by this year’s Seniors who realized that they had only 2 semesters left at BHS. Shy Freshman came, full of hopes and fears, while Sophomores and Juniors settled back into the same old routine of classes and homework. Although most students missed the freedom they had had during the summer, they were soon involved in the many sports, clubs, and other school activities offered by the high school. Much time was spent in making the Homecoming floats which turned out great and added a lot to the Homecoming festivities. The fall sports teams began their practices, and later ended their seasons with pretty im- pressive records. Winter rolled around and brought new things with it. Basketball games and dances were some of the weekend activities. As spring drew nearer, the Juniors began to make their final preparations for Prom and many of the Seniors suffered from a disease called ‘‘Senioritis.”’ All-in-all, the school year of 12 1982-83 was an eventful year, filled with many things. Everyday Education at B.H.S. The everyday student life at Batesville High School follows all educational avenues, from _ in- dividual study ... to sharing ideas . to student-teacher feedback within the classroom. All of which molds the students for their place in the future. Everything started on Friday night with a Powder Puff Soccer Game bet- and Senior girls, ween the Junior which the Juniors won. Boy cheerleaders and a drill team made up of Senior guys entertained the crowd; and at half time, Kevin Doyle was crowned as Powder Puff King. Saturday was warm and sunny and started off great with a parade with the theme of “‘Cartoons’’. But at Batesville High School, the routine oc- casionally changes drastically to regenerate the mind and add life to an otherwise ordinary day. December 19, 1982, SEMI! December 19, 1982 Well, the night finally came—Semi! We started out at my house pinning on flowers with Mom taking a zillion pictures. | was so nervous at dinner, why can’t they make lettuce leaves smaller? The band, ‘‘Riviera’’, was pretty good, but they didn’t play enough slow songs. (Shucks!) After the dance almost everyone went to Garcia’s party; it was a blast! When curfew rolled around he brought me home. Although my corsage will die, the memories will stay with me always. F. Another Year More Memories Dear Diary, Jeez! | can’t believe Christmas vacation is already over, it just flew by We went back to school today —it was totally bori I looked through my books today and found old notes about Semi and New Year’s Eve. It’s sort of strange to think that I put so much emphasis on one night of my life and all | have left is a memory. As Seniors, they have had many great experiences since they started their high school years as shy Freshmen. During their Sophomore year, they were more confident and became more involved in school activities. As Juniors, they read Beowulf in English class and raised money for their great Prom, whose theme was, ‘‘The Best of Times’’. This year, the class of ‘‘83”’ defeated the other classes with their Homecoming float for the first time! Senior Homecom- ing Queen Candidates were Connie Hammerle, Jane Hart- shorn and Piper Perdue. Jane Hartshorn was chosen as the 1982 Homecoming Queen. The Senior class officers; Jane Hartshorn, President; Lesa Butte, Vice-President; Virginia Becker, Secretary; and Drew Calo, Treasurer; worked with the class sponsor, Mr. Yarber, on many projects. Despite the many cases of “‘Senioritis’’, the class of “83” had a great year and will leave Batesville High School with many memories. Working hard is all they do, but then that is what they are there for. The lady Bulldog cheerleaders were the best around and the fans did an excellent job in helping them. ABOVE RIGHT .. . Under the leadership of the officers, Ann Miller—President, Brad Dreyer—Vice-President, Piper Perdue—Secretary, Theresa Haskamp—tTreasurer, the year proved to be a success. Many new projects were accomplished such as Beat-the-Blahs Week, a surprise convo, as well as many dances, convocations, and various special days. Many members attended the state convention at Newbourgh. The Council had a Christmas party which was a lot of fun. The annual Sherman House day was held earlier in the year with over 12 schools from the district attending. This gave everyone a chance to exchange ideas and plans, which was worthwhile for all. A Very Visible Organization Band encompasses two major organizations, a marching band and a concert band. The first semester primarily is dedicated to marching. The band performs at all home football games, possibly two basketball games, and 3 to 5 parades. Py ay The marching band serves an important public relations job because it is the ee: ‘ most visible non-sport activity. Support and added interest are the marching band’s most important function. Concert band is the more musically overted of the two divisions; playing quali- ty is the number one goal. The concert band plays 2 to 3 concerts; Christmas, Spring, and Graduation. The concert group hosts organization contests in the spring, and has taken part in the county music festival (but not this year). The elected leader is the drum major—Bobbi Maple. The band needs a budget of about $10,000 a year. To maintain equipment and supplies, magazines, records, cheese sausage, soap, pizza have all been sold to achieve their goals. —{ hy We ‘ye ae ot : v SESS OT To's ad’) be n'a BS ahd] tre we ate’ wal ABOVE .. . With the help of the music department, the musical “‘Grease”’ was also presented by the Thespians in May. Row 1... B. Cooley, C. Merkel, L. Puente, M. Kunkel, M. Ziegler, T. Haskamp, B. Dreyer, M. Mr. James Hayes, Mr. Leon Enneking, and Miss Patricia Terry were the directors and they did much to make the musical a huge success . Pam Hoegeman Sandy Wehr . . The class of 84 had work- ed hard to make everything perfect and they did a great job. The band, Monarch, entertained the crowd, while Rodger Merkel and Jane Hartshorn were crowned the 1983 Prom King and Queen. ‘ wv , + —, - £2 ZB - : - HNN King and Queen b| and Jane Hartshorn The Class of ’83 Moves on May 21, 1983..Graduation. After four years full of friendships and memories, the 149 members of the class of 1983 ended their days at B.HLS. A yellow rose was chosen as the class flower, while yellow and sky blue were the class colors. ““The greatest distance we have yet to cover still lies within us,” was the motto. After the diplomas were handed out, the faces of the graduates showed many different emotions, including both joy and sadness. Although the class of ’83 is leaving to face an unknown future, they will always have their memories of the.times at Batesville High School. Lots of Pictures and Summer Hours Hundreds of pictures and lots and lots of time went into the work of the 1983 Bulldog yearbook. Layout for each page had to be done and checked and recheck- ed before the pages can be sent to Texas for the final printing. Anne Ekins and Jane Hartshorn led the staff during homeroom as they tried to meet the necessary deadlines. Ads had to be sold to help defray the cost of each book. Students paid $15.00 per book, but the total cost for the making of each of the books was nearly $25.00 Hopefully all the Batesville students will be able to look back on this year’s book with fond memories of their 1982-83 school year. bsh.V seme LE, BELOW Jane Hartshorn concentrated among the crowd as she worked feverishly on necessary body copy for each page ABOVE ...
