This was the 6th straight year that the wrestlers have had a winning season. Batesville placed 3rd in the conference and sectional. Outstanding seasons were recorded by senior Barry Reynolds 18-7 and freshman Larry Stein 15-5-2. Batesville advanced 7 members of the team to the regional. Placing 4th in the regional were D. Dall, B. Reynolds, and M. Reindorf. This was the greatest amount of wrestlers to qualify for the regional. The old record being 4. The 1975-76 Baseball Team The above are the 5 Seniors that made up the ‘heart'' of the team. Dave Weigel was a mainstay at the 'thot'' corner. Squib was a self made athlete who showed an attitude of always trying to improve himself. Kurt Moenter has the responsibility of playing shortstop and pitching. He could always meet unexpected situations. Keith Moenter could execute effectively as a pitcher or as a catcher. Keith was the baseball captain for the 1976 squad. Coach Dunker is one of six coaches within the state of Indiana who has won 5 or more sectionals. Jay Gehring is probably one of the best second basemen that has ever played for BHS. Jay was the lead off batter and was pleasing and effective both on and off the field. Scott Fasbinder, undoub- tedly, is one of the most versatile of all athletes on the squad. Scott played all nine positions on the field. Scott always seemed to appear at ease even in difficult situations. Team’s Season Is A Success Thinclads Have A Fine Season The track team, coached by Mr. Raver, won 5 meets and lost only 2. They were third in the conference, second in the county, sec- ond in the Batesville Invi- tational, and placed second in the Rising Sun Invita- tional. Senior, Mike Bogenschutz is pictured above. Bogie qualified for the regional in Columbus. He finished fifth, and broke Dennis Dierckman's old record for the two mile. Congratula- tions, Bogie! Keep on truc- kin’. Jim Beck—Leading Point Getter Sixteen track team members qualified for the sectional in May. Bogenschutz was the only one who advanced to the regional. Jim Beck was the team's leading point getter. The Speaker's Bureau visits different communi ty organizations to talk about some of the problems in Batesville and what we can do about them. They organized the Homecoming Parade. ' Band Celebrates Bicentennial The Batesville High School Band is extremely busy throughout the entire year. It performs at many places. One of the most outstanding performances this year was at Pegagus Parade for the Kentucky Derby in April. Other performances include all home football and basketbali games. Versailles Pumpkin Show, Aurora Farmer's Fair, and the Homecoming Parade. Also, the band performed for the Middle School Dedication, Christmas Concert, Ripley County Music Festival, Spring Concert, Graduation, and the Memorial Day Parade. To raise money, the band sold magazines, turtle soup, fudge, and pizza. The Music Boosters held a dance in March to help support the band also. This year, the band had a student teacher. His name is Les Miller and he added many new methods to the band. The band is directed by Mr. Bourquein. He does an outstanding job and his hard work is greatly appre- ciated. Chorus Performs At Western Woods = x The last year has been a busy one for the Chorus. In addition to the traditional Christmas and Spring Pro- grams, they helped to host the Ripley Co. Music Festival and performed for the PTO's Bicentennial program in May. In February, despite icy roads, Linda Anderson and Sandy Wessel were able to sing for Solo Contest and received superior ratings. In September Linda Anderson was selected as an alternate for the All-State Choir, a group which performs for the teachers meetings in October. The highlight of the year was the Cho- rus’ trip to Cincinnati to perform at Western Woods Mall during the Christmas season. Pictured above are some of the chorus members practicing for an upcoming special event. + Stage Band Goes To Jazz Festival Daryl Mergenthal provided music on the organ at the Pop Concert. The 1975-76 Stage Band was active in many events this year. They played at the Columbus Jazz Festival in March and for the Lions Club in the fall. They also played for several student assemblies. The Pop Concert is always the biggest performance for the Stage Band. Mr. Bourquein is the director. Almost every type of music was represented at the Pop Concert. It went from the 1930's slow songs to the 1950's teeny-bopper boogies to clas- sical music to the 1970's rock songs. Jack Shields shows much talent on the trap set.
