Selecting a theme, choosing materials, and decorating were problems the juniors faced during one of the biggest tasks of their high school careers. The SAT forced students to draw upon knowledge gained from earlier education. Many juniors began planning for college and found a variety of factors to be considered. The Bulldogs were now one of the “Sweet Six- teen”! In the afternoon game at Hinkle Fieldhouse, the Dogs suffered their second defeat at the hands of New Castle. The Dogs finished the season with an impress- ive 24-2 record. = a Come on, guys! It’s my basketball!!! Rewards for a job well done. Jump, Bull Jump!! Cheerleaders Add Enthusiasm Varsity cheerleaders—Carol, Pam, Arlene, and Kathie The cheerleaders add the much appreciated school spirit and pep. They are just as important to a win- ning season as the various teams. To show how much enthusiasm and pep these young ladies have, they brought back the coveted “spirit stick” from cheerleader camp held at Vincennes University. They also brought back one “excellent” and three “superior” ratings. B.H.S. is proud of its cheerleaders. Alternate for the varsity is Beth Romberger; Audrey Snider is B- team alternate; and Karen Prickel is frosh alternate. The squads are directed by Miss Stillhammer. The chorus is also featured in the Spring Concert. Besides school activities, the group sings for several organizations in the community. The Batesville High School Band is under the able direction of Mr. Bourquein this year. Besides the Christmas and Spring Concerts, the band performs at all home games, both football and basketball. The members also take an active part in the Homecoming festivities by marching in the parade and at half time. The drum major is junior Neil Jenkinson and head majorette is senior Carol Lamppert. The band works very closely with the ma- jorettes and drill team and their performances at games. The band and music boosters have been working hard to earn money for new uniforms. The Batesville High School Marching Band f Libby, Arlene, Kathy, and Danae These twelve senior members will be greatly missed next year. Their enthusiasm and energy was appre- ciated by all the band. Pep Club Backs the Dogs The Pep Club under the sponsor- ship of Miss Stillhammer added a great deal of spirit to the games as they cheered the team on to many victories. The club elected officers for the first time this year. They are; Judy Sizemore Pres., Mary Hoyer Vice Pres., Carol Flodder Sec., and Debbie Mollaun Treas. This is the first year the G.A.A. has been a member of the State Organization. Two of the members Connie Marticke and Jeanette Voh- land went to a G.A.A. camp in North Webster, this fall. Mexico City During the Summer Last summer the third and fourth year Spanish students took a ten day trip to Mexico City. These fourteen students gained first hand knowledge in conversing in Spanish and bargaining at the [ocal market. Some of them gained a lot of ex perience in other areas as well such as walking through plateglass doors and picking up tambourine players. While in Mexico City, the group visited many tourist attractions but they had plenty of time to meet the natives of Mexico and learn about some of their customs. Mr. and Mrs. Brelage were chaperones for the trip. This is a birds-eye view of a bullfight. The light spots on the left side of the arena floor is sawdust. This covers the blood after the bull is killed. Anyone interested in the identity of the young lady with the tambourine is asked to contact Randy Mehlon. This was snapped at the “night club” in the hotel. Many of the people in the background are students from other schools also on tour. Debate Club The Debate Club has again be- come an active organization on campus. The club gives students an opportunity to go to other schools in the area and debate other clubs. This years debate topic deals with pollution. Mrs. Suhre is sponsor of the Debate Club. The students above are the Junior and Senior members of Debate. One of the jobs of a student librarian is to learn proper methods of filing. Librarians The Library Club of B.H.LS. is made up of students interested in promoting the use of the school library or in actual library work. Membership in this club has increased this year as the students became interested in the im prove- ment of their school library. One of the major money making projects has been candy sales. The group also visits college and public libraries. Miss Hiatt sponsors this club. National Honor Society Students who did outstanding work in their various fields of in- terest were rewarded with member- ship in National Honor Society. Admittance is determined on the basis of class rank and merit points which are awarded for service, leadership, and character. The Bulldog office comes alive in early October and remains a bustling center of activity for a gal- lant few until the final deadlines are met. Creating a yearbook is a never-ending job for the editors, staff, and advisor; it is a constant source of wonder, worry, and hard work. The purpose of an annual is to relate a story—a story of ac- tivity, of participation and of learning. But the most important element of the story is an elite group of people who bring the story and the school to life. The students who comprise the Bulldog staff are a small part of this elite group, but an important part. Un- der the direction of Miss Heim, these students are able to give you an account of the story in which you play an integral part.
