DEDICATION Since the present Batesville High School was built in 1924, many students have passed through its doors. With them have come changes and improvements for the betterment of the school. Our senior class, too, will leave this building, never again to return as young students. And yet, although we are leaving Batesville High, our accomplish- ments, as well as our failures, will remain and become a part of the history of the school. We fervently hope that we have added to, not detracted from it, and that the future students of Batesville High will continue to improve on our record with every passing year. Toward this desire, we, the Class of 1961, dedicate this yearbook to all future students of our own Batesville High School, that it may inspire them to greater and better achievements. We soon got into the swing of things and held our first class meeting as high school students. Bill Bohannon was chosen to head our class with assistance from Carolyn Stacey, Vice-President; Glenda Dieckmann, Treasurer; and Gilbert Salatin, Secretary. The senior class welcomed us with an initiation very different from any we had ever had! We were dressed to a T in our initiation outfits and boys as well as girls received their first lesson in the art of applying make-up. We also had two wonderful hilarious class parties with our sponsors, Miss Wonning and Mr. Roth. If the next years would be as much fun as our first year, we knew we would have a wonderful high school life. AS SOPHOMORES - We returned to B.H.S. in the fall of 1958, one year older and much, much wiser. We knew just what was expected of us and immediately organized our class by electing officers. Jerry Abplanalp took up the guiding reins as President with Shirley Volk, Vice-President; Patti Westerfeld, Secretary; and Milton Stock, Treasurer. Our Sponsors, Miss Mary Ann Arthur and Mr. William Spence, and the school survived more of our riotous class parties. As sophomores, we were entitled to have two girls chosen as representatives of our class for the Homecoming activities. June Ann Boehmer and Carolyn Stacey were our choices to prove to the upperclassmen that we not only had brains, but beauty, too! AS JUNIORS - At last, in 1959, we returned to high school as upperclassmen! we knew this would indeed be a busy and exciting year for us. Jerry Abplanalp was again elected president for this important year. Also sharing the load of responsibility were Charlie Werner, Vice-President; Boji Timmerman, Secretary; and Evelyn Borchelt, Treasurer. Our first big activity was the Junior Play, The Inner Willy, which was a very nerve-wracking, but fun-filled experience. Miss Arthur directed the cast and joined us for a party after the big opening (and closing! ) night. We hardly had time to catch our breath before work on the Junior-Senior Prom had to be started. After many hours of work and fun we joined the seniors for a Serenade in Jade May 13 at 8 p.m. It also happened to be Friday, May 13th, but luckily nothing occurredto mar the night's events. Joy Gardner and Boji Timmeman were the two attractive misses chosen as our Junior Homecoming representatives Of course, we were badly beaten by the seniors in the annual mock football game. AS SENIORS - And now, our big moment is here. We are the upperclassmen and we realize the responsibilities which come with this position. The leadership of this last school year rests with Jerry Abplanalp, President; Charlie Werner, Vice- President; Glenda Dieckmann, Treasurer; and Patti Westerfeld, Secretary. Roger Schorr and Boji Timmerman are responsible for the two sources of school news and highlights - the year- book and high school paper. Glenda Dieckmann presides over the students' governing body, the Student Council. Other senior members are Dan Placke, Vernon Raver, Roger Schorr, and Tom Tekulve. Mr. Frushour and Mr. Carmichael are our sponsors to help us with graduation arrangements and problems. Lovely Jean Meyer was chosen Homecoming Queen by the senior football players. Boji Timmerman and Shirley Volk were the senior attendants who enhanced the queen's court. This year, in the girls' mock football game, we triumphed over the juniors in a close and exciting game.
