The Class of 1966 showed spirit from the start. We organized dance nights in the Den, a skating party, a ski trip, and dorm get- togethers. The girls helped to plan dorm outings, Christmas parties, the guys jinally got up the nerve to do some serenading. In numbers greater than ever before we joined clubs, took out petitions for class and organizational positions, and, as time went on, became more and more determined that our class was going to be a little diferent, a little better.

History without facts is worthless. Itis like Lewiston without Frenchmen or the Holly without a Stripper. And, realizing this, I will attempt to establish a factual, if seemingly trivial framework upon which a history of the Class of 1966 can be constructed. Our frst category is Freshman Week: that was the week that was. It was when we wore our best clothes, our best faces . . . when we began to dance every night at the Den Cmuch to the amazement of upperclassmenj . . when we sought the advice of Bill Gardner, Dan Ustick, George Stone, Peter Gomes, Betty Ann Little, Iani Downing, Cilla Bonney . . . without ever letting them think for one minute that we really needed them to tell us what to do. It was then we decided among us who in the gang would turn out eventually to be the hottest ticketv, the greatest athlete, the best lover, the loneliest bookworm . . . when we heard how great we were lhighest average college board scores to date, more than an even chance of staying in and doing wellj . . . and it was when we were generally pretty excited, quite scared, and almost totally unconscious of the hard work that lay ahead. Freshman Week . . . sometimes it seems like a million years ago, but I ,ll bet money that today, right now, it seems like just yesterday. Think back to the days when we were either going out of our way to bump off our shoe dates . . . or going out of our way to bump into our shoe dates . . . the days when we jirst heard from the Bookstore, 'Cotta' penny, deahPv and from the Den, Want marmalade on those muffinsilv . . . the days when all the characters in our class began to congeal into one spirited body. We,ve experienced these four years together. It is in deep appreciation, therefore, of the fact that we were all in the same boat that I proceed.
