' . - Bee A itch E55-1912 Page One Hundred Thirty-Five Our enemies got busy and gave us quite a chase, They saw us making baskets and joined us in the race. We didn't give them many, we kept them in the soup-- Wliile we were feeling happy and playing loop the loop. . Barr pulled himself together and started on a trot- Stabbed the pill at center, then made a pretty shot. He went into the mixup, time and time again, His anxious work for honors made him foul now and then. Each one did his duty, not one of them fell short- In striving for the title, they added to the sport. The lirst half was Batavia's, our boys all had a line, That they had Joliet hested atseventeen to nine. All of the other rooters were opposed to us, ' There wasn't quite enough of us to make a noisy fuss. But that did not annoy us, we knew we had a show-- That looked as 'good as any, we'd make them all look slow. Then the war continued, we kept right up in front, lvhile Joliet fought fiercely, but couldn't do the stunt, They'd played about ten minutes, both centers chased the hall: Yvith a clash they came together and thumped against the wall. Hamilton-Ioliet's center, the same old red-haired lad, l'Accidentally mixed with Dutch, we didn't know how had. lt looked as though their center did not try to avert- 'l'he bump which then resulted in centers being hurt. They both stretched out exhausted, the two were given care, lt could have been avoided, the trick was done unfair. But smiling Wm. Buckner, our trainer with the dope -- - Doctored Mr. Trantow, which brought about new hope. A plan to fix our Trantowg it surely was a bit Of Fortune's clever dealings when they had the worst of it. VVe knew our rival's feelings, their center, forwards, guards, They all should have their pictures on penny postal cards. After their revival, play was then resumed- We played them all the stronger and Joliet was doomed. The final toot was sounded, we left them in a hx, Our rivals counted nineteen--we counted twenty-six. ' Our little band of rooters, with cheers that sounded meek- Remembered what they handed us down there the previous week. VVe beat them at the odd game and made their crew disperse, VVe shipped them back to prison, carried by a hearse.
