Modesty keeps us from saying it's another blue ribbon book, but we think you will like it. Especially the snazzy treatment of your snapshots. And the art, and that fancy poll page. About the only thing we don't like is the way those stairway pictures aboye this paragraph domin- ate this page! The theme is time. Have a good time with your year- book now, and as time goes on have some more good times looking it over and reminiscing about the good times you had back there in Bl-IS. .....m.ti WQYS A NX.. jfs Cf 5' J Z3 ' I W4 G iC0nien!5 W MMM ,., In Memoriam. . , 4 ADMINISTRATION Board of Education. . . . 6 V Faculty ....... . . . . 7 SENIORS History, Officers, and Honor Society Members . . . 12 Pic Senior Poll ................. . 14 Seniors of '56 . . . ........... . . 15 UNDERCLASSMEN Class of '57 ............. . . 34 Class of '58 .............. . . 36 Snapshots of juniors and Sophomores . . . . 38 ACTIVITIES Student Council ..... . . . . 40 Service League .......... . . 41 Publications ............. . . 42 Actors, Speakers, and Stage Crew . . . . 44 Clubs ................ . . 47 Music ............... . . 52 Sports ....... . . 56 Sports Snapshots. . . . . 68 JUNIOR HIGH J. Pushing our interest beyond the confines of our own school seemed a good idea, so we have continued the report on progress at john Kennedy with two more pictures. Qlncidentally, if we do this again, we shall elect a time when the surrounding terrain is less wintry and bleak., The Board didn't forget BHS, however. Where were the other women? There was coffee on the stove at 3:45, and a select few took advantage ofit. But the colossal event of the year was a party hon- oring Mr. Sanborn for his election as president of the Western Zone of the State Teachers Association. Boy, dig that cake! Wow, those calories! In September, 1952, we started our freshman year by elect- ing Betty Berardini, Jim Ditzel, Judy Bloomingdale, and Paul Bentley to J. O. , sponsored three dances, a speaking contest, and a Red Cross Drive. At Jackson Junior High the big event of the year was graduation. Both classes had a successful year under the guidance of Miss Mc- MISS GEHRING Clellan and Mrs. Stella. In our Sophomore year we all merged to make our class really the greatest! As sophomores we became soph sisters, voted for mayor, and joined senior high activities. We elected Jim Ditzel, Judy Bloomingdale, Carol Pies, and Norma Pies as class officers. Charlotte Sanborn, Betty Berar- dini, and Jack Corey represented us on Student Council. Spring Fever, our sophomore dance, was the big social event. Sue Ames won the medal for the highest mark on the Biology Regents Exams. Fall of 1954 saw us back at school, older and wiser, as juniors. Jack Corey, Gordy Barlow, Bev Bemard, and Joan Marym became our class officers, with Betty Berardini, Bev Gorecki, and Jim Dit- zel representing us on Student Council. Eighteen boys transferred to Metal Trades Vocational School but were not forgotten by the rest of us. Emmy Lou Lehmann won the lead in the school play, while Norma Pies and Jeanne Corey took first and second honors in the Girls' Speaking Contest. Other members of our. class to win prizes were Judy Bloomingdale, who won the Adelaide Kenny Language Medal, George Manitsas, who was awarded the Harvard Club Prize, Sieglinde Wagner, who was pre- sented the Art Award, and Dick Gahagan, who won the Most Valuable Player Trophy in basketball. We chose Judy Bloomingdale and George Manitsas to represent us at Girls' and Boys' State. The two outstanding social events of the year were our dances, Winter Wonderland and Deep Purple. Mighty seniors--we finally arrived! None of us will ever forget the exciting election campaigns. jim Ditzel defeated George Manitsas as mayor of BHS by a very small margin. To lead our class we elected Gordy Barlow, Judy Bloomingdale, Carol Gringer, and Betty Ber- ardini, Marcie Sformo, Bev Gorecki, and jack Corey became our Student Council representatives. The campaigns were really tremendous with plenty of street dances, open houses and parties. The Senior girls organized Sophomore Sister Week for the first time with permission of school authorities. No- vember found us in a College Daze over College Days at Bennett High. Then came the proofs of our senior pictures - Horrors! Can that be me? December brought the end of football season, plenty of snow, and the Chorister Concert, along with Christmas vacation and a New Year's Dance. We came back to school and began hitting the books for mid-year exams which included a new American History Regents Exam. The D.A. R. Citizenship award went to Judy Bloomingdale. Following exams came the january College Boards--How can we forget? Basketball games, dances, parties, activities, and of course, homework, kept us busy. Carol Pies won the Betty Crocker Homemaker award and jack Corey was named for Bausch and Lomb Science Scholarship. A big event was the hilarious Student- Faculty basketball game, where the men's faculty lost by three points to the senior boys! Singing Ever Batavia in the assemblies we came to the full realization that we are seniors! State Scholar- ship Exams were certainly a part of our class history: and the banquet with its terrific theme Mo- ments to Remember. And of course, the Ball! Finally our goal-Commencement. We will always remember and appreciate the guidance of Miss Gehring, our counselor. Looking back we have many happy moments to remember. Looking ahead we are striving toward new goals of college and careers. We feel just a bit scared as we approach these thresholds-scared and nostalgic, yet eager and impatient. We will never forget these high school years. Yes, we will have these moments to remember! NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY: I.Ditzel, J.Herridge, J.Bloomingda1e, N. Kibler, E.Lehmann, G.
