The '49 Blue Wave started with a bang by handing Marist its first regu- lar season loss since 1947. It took the boys in blue and gold the entire first half to get warmed up but after that there was no stopping them. With tive minutes gone in the third quarter, jim Rans- botham scored on a fake cross- buck toss from forty-five yards out on a beautiful run behind BOB KEEL There isn't too much you can say about Bob. He made first team all-region and hon- orable mention all-state. He was team high scorer. ED REGAN VVhenever Coach Phillips wanted a pass he sent in Ed. He seldom missed. perfect blocking. Tony Drap- er's kick was good and Bass led 7 to 0. Bobby Keel raced around right end in the fourth quarter to complete the night's scoring. Up front, the team was led by the hard play of Waldo Hitt, Tony Draper, Boyd Odom and Tom Foster. Jim Ransbotham and Ed Reagin shined brightest among the light-footed boys. SAM BROWN l'Sambo was awarded the 'Lmost improved back trophy at the annual fall sports ban- quet. He was one of the most dreaded runners on the team. JIMMY RANsBoTHAM Gne of the most versatile athletes Bass will ever have. Jimmy was hindered most of the season by injuries. FIRST LEAGUE VICTORY The Wave chalkedup its first league victory by fiood- ing Grady, 18-0. Bass took the opening kickoff and scored after a 65 yard drive, with Keel carrying the mail. In the second quarter, Bass took over at the Grady 40 yard line and scored five plays later. Bob Reed took this one over from the nine. Reed scored again in the Hnal quarter, making the score 18 to 0. It was a proud night for Bass supporters, as we were never in danger. Jos SHAW Besides being a deadly cen- ter joe was also a fine line backer. He'1l be around next year.
