The Bass backs raced through gaping holes in the Tide line for successive first downs and Bobby Keel scored from the 3. Draper's kick was wide. Roose- velt scored in the second quarter to make it 7-6. Neither team threat- ened seriously in the second half. In the closing minutes of the game, Bass released a passing attack that would have scored had there been time. Playing their last game for the Blue and Gold, Charlie Maddox, Tony Draper, Boyd Odom, Calvin Abernathy, Mike Bottchen, Don Fuller, Bobby Keel, and jim Ransbotham were the bright cogs in the Bass machine. BASS BOWS 20-6 The Smithies had to put on a show before they could bounce a fighting Blue YVave. Three times the Smith quarterback found men open in the end zone and when it was over, Smith had 20 points to our 6. On the first play of the game, Sonny Scott hit Sam Brown on a special sleeper pass good for 52 yards. The play carried to the Smith 25, but when Brown was hit, the ball bounded out of his hands, and Smith recovered. Bass held, and on an exchange of punts, Scott booted one dead on the Smith Z. Un the first play, Smith fumb- led and Reed caught it in mid-air and fell over for the score. Scott's try for conversion was blocked. Bass's seven mules played one of their finest games. They al- lowed the vaunted Smith running attack only 34 yards and at the end of the first half, their total yards rushing was minus 3. The big men up front were Ralph Freeman, Boyd Odom, Tony Draper, Charles Maddox, and Mike Bott- chen. ln the backfield, Sam Brown, Tommy Moore and Bob
