Taylor, C, Donald Clark County Education Center School Board Keeps Pace With Education The Board of School Trustees formulates policy to meet the every day challenges of the world through improved education. The board meets twice a month at the Education Center on Flamingo Road and other times as neces- sary. The school board policies have permitted innovations in our schools allowing us to keep pace with the ever-changing world of educa- tion. The passage of a new bond issue will allow the board to build much needed new schools and to bring our present schools up to the current high standards. Our goal is to make available to every student the best possible ed- ucation.

AND MANY A GOAL TO R ACH. Lyal W. Burkholder When we asked Mr. Burkholder to comment on our theme, he wrote the beautiful lines above which so typify the versatility of this man. His is a life which has been devoted to the better- ment of our community and especially to the ed- ucation of our young people. His first association with our schools was in 1943 when he became principal of Basic High School, a position which he so aptly held until 1949. Between the years 1949-1956 he was superintendent of the Henderson School District. But a man with his many talents cannot be confined to one small spot and in 1956 he became the Area Administrator for the Clark County School District, a position which en- abled many people to reap his wisdom and guid- ance. Mr. Burkholder will retire from regular service in public education June 30, 1969. Following retire- ment he plans to complete work for the Doctor's Degree and devote remaining years to college or university teaching. Mr. Burkholder, we wish' you the best of luck in all your endeavors and the goals you yet will reach.

John A. Dooley--Principal A MAN WITH A PURPOSE i To the Class of 1969 - Your class ranks among the top three classes in the history of Basic High School for helping us reach our goal of making Basic one of the best schools in the West. I truly hope we have more classes like the class of 1969. I believe that the outstanding need of the human being is to have worthy goals for which he can strive. The worth of his goals will be measured by his personal sense of values. Also, the worth of our nation will be measured by the collective goals of our citizens. My wish for each member of the class of 1969 is that you establish and achieve worthy goals so that when the time arrives when you will have to meas- ure your life's accomplishment, you will be able to say, My life was worth while. Respectfully you rs, Quinn Ct. aguilt
