Therefore, we take this opportunity to express our appreciation to Mr. John R. Beatty who is not only head of the Eng- lish Department but also an outstanding instructor and friend. YVe thank Mr. Beatty for his untiring efforts as sponsor of the Senior Class and director of the Senior Class Play. Mr. Beatty created the Fine Arts Club and Top of the Pile, a collection of outstanding works of the Senior Class. He has stimulated our efforts and has al- ways shown an unfaltering interest in our affairs. He has offered us encouragement to strive for college level work. For these reasons and many more, we should again like to express our thanks to Mr. John R. Beatty. The help and guidance he has given at Basic High School will be invaluable in the years to come. Sincerely, The Class of '64 3 F GRE GRD As members of the student body, we have shared the tedious hours of study, the anxiety that arises before an exam, the scramble to get a sandwich in the crowded lunch room and still have time to eat it. We have shared the laughter in the halls, the happiness that comes from winning a game, and the thrill of seeing the various queens being crowned. As seniors, we have shared the sadness of knowing that the Senior Ball is drawing our high school years to a close, the anticipation of bac- calaureate, and finally, our last big night as high school students, graduation. All of these events will become precious memories as the years pass, memories that each of us sometime in life will pause for an instant to ponder. To preserve these memories the El Lobo has been prepared. We have compiled between the covers of this book the main events of that wonderful year 1963-64-g we have made this your book of Silver Memories? Respectfully yours, Carroll-Ann Brooks Editor 4 wt, 13 fmgfg 1 3 -me g MESSAGE John A Dooley Principal To the Class of 1964: The day after graduation you will find that-except for your parents-you will be alone in a changing world. There will be no teachers, required subjects, or attendance regulations to direct your life. You may still seek aid from the school, but you will find that the tone of that aid is somehow different. You might go on to col- lege or to work, but in either case that difference will still be there. You will be absolutely responsible for the direction of your own life. It is my hope that we have instilled in each of you some moral, ethical and practical guidelines which will make you the master of your own lifeg then, you will have your silver memories of Basic High. Respectfully yours, John A. Dooley Principal PRINCIPAL, S Sharon Jeffrey, Secretary 5 To each member of the Class of 1964, congratulations. You have overcome many problems to achieve one of the first major goals in your young adult life. The goals which you have set for yourself will determine your success in life. Choose those goals carefully, thinking not only of the welfare of yourself and your future family, but also of your community and your nation. Then work to your capacity to attain those goals. Respectfully yours, E. M. McDoniel, Assistant Principal Estes McDonial, Assistant Principal l P l Pat Purcell, Secretary To the Class of 1964: Now high school is over, an experience of the past, a memory. The integral parts of that memory are the academic and extra cur- ricular activities which form the base of your foundation of life. Now, build on your foundation and work toward the pinnacle of your goals. Remember, with pride, that you went to Basic High School. Respectfully yours, Ben W. Cowan Assistant Principal Ben Cowan, Assixtant Principal 6 Memories are what Happiness is made of. Our most positive, continu- ous and self-satisfying source of day-to-day happiness rests in our capacity to re-experience, through memories, the joys and achievements of our life's past happenings. To add to the strength of these Silver Memories, we are so equipped by nature that memories will admit to their folds only happy past experiences and will deny entry to past failures and sorrows. The High School Dance with that Only One! That HA' 'in Math after the midnight oil! That basket in the final seconds that tumed de- feat to victory! That reassuring smile, passed fleetingly to you in the cor- ridor, that lets you know all is not lost with the boy or girl of your dreams! That special word of praise from the English prof in class this moming! That coveted B in football! That leading role in the class play! The Honor Student stole at Commencement! Your selection as a Desertaire! That 'spic' look in your new band uniform! These are the ecstacies of High School Life that Silver Memories are made of. Respectfully yours, Lyal W. All too quickly these years have passedq but not without leaving the mem- ories of the wonderful Senior Play and the beautiful Sen- ior Ball, and most important of all, that last night-our graduation. All of these silver memories and many more remind us of our accomplishments. With tears in our eyes, the Senior Class of '64 bids farewell, but behind us remain our achievements which have become part of the tradition held so dear by Basic High School and the remembrance of the glorious year '63-'64. Now we face the future with sadness and pride, knowing that the silver light of those wonderful moments at Basic High School will glow in our hearts forever. Between the colorful Junior Camival and the successful Junior Class Play, we found that we were studiously poring over stacks of books until the wee hours of the morning. Not only these events but many more become the many silver memories which we will tuck away to look, back upon only as we stand ready to face the long-awaited senior year. The end of the year has come. We, the pres- ent juniors, have watched the seniors hurrying around the halls and taking care of all the last minute preparations.
