Every person experiences fears as they are growing up, whether it is the monster under the bed or the fact Santa might not bring them anything for Christmas. The Senior Class is no exception. As they gra- duate, they have fears of what will happen as they leave the security of high school life. Some seniors are afraid of serious matters such as war, death, gradu- ation and AIDS. Yet, many seniors, as they go out into the “big, bad world”, have a more humorous out- look to their fears. Denny Robbins and Bryan Tay- lor, for instance, take their fear of Mr. Anderson out into the real world. David Higginson’s worst fear would be the comeback of bellbot- toms. John Pebley, of course, does not fear anything. Lori Greenwald fears one day she will become fat. Mike Ducey would shake and shiv- er in his Stadia’s if Sylvester Stal- lone never made another “Rocky” movie. As the Seniors of Basehor High School travel the ups and downs of life and the many obstacles it pre- sents, we can only hope they will continue to maintain this humor- ous view of the future. HENDERSON WINDA LEE HICKLIN Play Tlw Odtk Against You “The Odds are Against You,” a comedy by John Vornholt, is about the Mondale family. As if Gerald Mondale doesn’t have enough problems raising his daughters, the grandmothers don’t think they have enough pri- vacy and want to build a $10,000 addition on the house. They’ll go to any length to raise the money, including buying a race-horse, “on time”, from a notorious gangster. Behind Gerald’s back, they get Cathi and Susan and Uncle Alfred to help. A week later, two of Big Louie’s henchman, Zeke and Little Claude, arrive to collect the $20,000. Since the grandmothers have no money, the debt falls to Gerald; he has one week to pay up. All the desperate thinking and feeble attempts fail to come up with the $20,000 or a solution. When the gangsters return, luck intervenes and the police show up just in time. This comedy filled play was directed by Mr. Chris Anderson. Kevin Peterson, junior, was elected to the first string, offen- sive and defensive teams. Kyle Lindelof, senior, was elected to the first string, offensive team. Scott Tripp, senior, was elected to second string, offensive and de- fensive teams. Randy Otting, sen- ior, was elected to the second string, defensive team. The Bobcats were led by fifteen seniors and head coach Art Wells. Assistant coaches were Tom Coo- per, Dave Elliott, and Lee Newell. One of the highlights of the sea- son was the year opening win over rival Piper. It was the first time in five years that Basehor has beaten Piper and won a season opener. “We showed much improve- ment over the previous season. In- juries were a problem at the mid- dle and end of the season and pre- vented us from having a better re- cord,” Coach Wells said. The Bobcats, with a 3-0 record, were on a roil, hoping for a victory over the Immaculata Haiders, in the big ' rriday Homecoming game. Spirit week began the festivities with Monday being Concert T-shirt Day Wednesday, Hat and Sunglasses Day and rriday, the traditional Green and White Day. The mood was set for the parade on r riday with the school and the town ready to cheer their Bobcats on to a win. The theme of the parade, “Bobcat Power’’ was expressed by all, especially the Freshman' class who won best float out of the High School classes. Following the parade was the annual Pumpkin Patch BBQ and shortly thereafter, the big game, where the Bobcats defeated the Raiders by a score of 13-0. During half-time, Becky Culbertson was crowned Homecoming Queen. Kim Landon and Heather Libel were crowned princesses. Saturday night held fun for all. The theme of the dance, “Fall Frenzy , was felt by the record number of students in attendance. The park-like setting was complete with falling leaves. The dance combined with the win by the Bobcats,’ made it a very special Homecoming. 29 l a urfy Members of the 1987-1988 Varsity Volleyball Team are: Front: Tracy Trowbridge. They also learned a lot of new cheers and pyramids which they use throughout the year. Overall, the cheerleading squads had a good and busy year. Once again this year the cheer- leaders had a secret sis”. They secretly exchange gifts with another cheerleader through the Christmas season.
