The paw represents the school symbol, the Bobcat. The prints represent the memories that all students carry of the '74-75' school year. Each student has a unique print” and all the prints together make up the '74-75' school year. The BOBCAT staff has attempted to bring all the pawprints” together in this book to form a record of the year gone by. We hope you feel that we have succeeded. The area with steel girders over it is the new gym and shop area. The area that appears as steps, near the center, is the band room. Below L to R. An interior view of the new gym, the siding was partially on. A view of the classroom area, interior walls were going up. Bottom L to R. View of the brick front of the Junior High Building. Still a long way to go! The last picture shows the entire front of the building, the roof is on and walls are up. Track During the fall of '74 and through '75 several construction jobs were underway at BHS. Pictured on these two pages are the new Jr. High and new high school track. Pictured below is an aerial view of the track. It was built through the efforts of the Booster Club and coaches. It is made of asphalt and was poured and lev- eled with volunteer work. The lines were not painted when the aerial picture was taken, but the high jump area can be seen behind the football goal posts on the north end. The track also includes a vaulting area. The cost was approximately $8,000. The middle picture shows the lanes and high jump area. Top picture shows that long straight- way. The Jr. High and HS are in adjoining buildings connected by a glass enclosed hallway. The new Library, Music, Shop and PE facilities are shared. This was the last year for separation of grades 7 and 8 from 9 to 12. All the construction will make an even better year for '76 students. Classes Can Be Fun AT RIGHT: The snow covered parking lot that we all hate to walk through on the way to class. In winter it's snow and spring it's mud. One way BHS students show their individuality is through the kind of car they drive. MIDDLE: Ena McIntosh and Esther Cox are making their prints on stencils for the Breeze. BOTTOM RIGHT: Drama students lana Campbell, Denise DeMaranville, lulie Foley, and Delynn Lav- vom are trying out their skills with stage makeup. BOTTOM LEFT: Remember the day we all prayed for more snow so we could get out early? Students and Teachers Display Talent AT LEFT: Elaine Smith grimaces during the Junior Play. Students have an opportunity to express their talents through acting. It requires a good memory, though, to remember all those lines and what to do, when! MIDDLE: The Junior High and Senior High Faculty men played in a bas- ketball game to help raise money for the B-Club projects. Looks like they are really sweating it out. BELOW: The school plays an important part in the life of students and residents of Basehor. Many community members support the high school even though their children have graduated or are in the lower grades. Evidence of this support is the new track, shown in the right foreground and the new Junior High, left center (in progress). This Is Bobcat Country The students of BHS represent the spirit of ’75' by making their prints in Bobcat Country through extracurricular activities. The students pictured are representa- tive of the Basehor students who work many hours after school in their chosen activities. Pictured are: Far Right: Esther Cox serving refreshments at a school dance. Lower Right: Allison Wiley prac- ticing for a pep band perform- ance. Bobcats are represented in the sports field by athletic teams as well as halftime performances by majorettes, band, pep club, cheerleaders and Drill Team. Students of BHS choose candidates for Queen and King con- tests throughout the year. Some are elected by student body ballot and others by select groups. Students that participate in extracurricular activities contribute to the spirit of BHS. Pictured left: Lonnie Williamson sweating after first half exertions in a football game. Middle: The Drill Team is shown march- ing on the field prior to halftime performance with cheerleaders and pep club members. Bottom: Kim Coggbum, Jenny Fore, and Becky Chiles were Homecoming Queen candidates for 74-75. As this picture shows it was a wet game! STUDENTS Cheer, Support, Participate There were many avenues open for BHS students to make their pawprints. Pep Club, support of the athletic teams and plays were some of the ways that each person could participate. We hope your memo- ries of '75 are good ones! 10 SCHOOL BOARD TOP: Mr. Howard G. Whether they are really your best friend, or a friend at all? I was delighted to share with you my feelings of Mrs. Leuszler. She was a rather quiet person, but when there was a reason or a need, Mrs. Leusz- ler stood up and was heard. Her classes were never really out of control because she always kept the girls busy with some project. Her very careful planning made learning worthwhile; the projects were planned to be interesting and fun, yet educational. Mrs. Leuszler didn't stop helping after she got the con- glomeration of thread out of your zipper, or when you discovered smoke pouring from the oven, because you were busy conversing with a friend and not constantly watching the Surprise Cake (like the recipe said). Instead, she helped with many personal problems involving family, friends, and other hard-to-understand people. I’ve used the knowledge gained from Mrs. Leuszler every day. Now that she's gone. I've heard many people comment on how unfair and rude people can be. At times as I gaze into the dark empty kitchen and notice that the once familiar coat is gone, 1 feel the whole class is missing a very kind and under- standing teacher. Especially the senior girls who have listened to and valued everything Mrs. Leuszler taught us. In some way, I wanted to thank Mrs. Leuszler before I graduated for all she had done and taught me. I only feel sorry that I never had the chance to say the most impor- tant words ever, ’' Thank you. ’' editorial contributed by senior Darlene Brock Mrs. Leuszler died on January 8, 1975 16 STEVE CAMPBELL, Pres. As Juniors they had a 5-4 season and this year they finished with 6 wins and 3 losses. The Cats started off the season by winning three straight. The first win came against cross-county rivals, Tonganoxie 20-0. Then the next three games they lost, but came on strong later by winning the three remaining games. Highlights for the season were the opening victory against Tonganoxie and in the Blue Valley game, the Cats were behind 7-0 in the first quarter but rallied back and defeated the Tigers 23-17. The last game against rival Piper Pirates was good for the Cats. They pinned a 42-0 defeat on the Pirates. The managers for the team this year were Jackie Brock, Head, Mike Brock, Asst, and Bill Miles, Assistant. Managers help prepare equipment before a game and other duties as the coaches request. The Coaches were Jerry Layton, Head, Art Wells, and Chris Ballard, Assistants. They expect an even bet- ter team next year with the help of the new weight machine. Overall, their record reflects the following accomplishment: Varsity placing fourth in the League Track Meet. JV placed first at the end of the season. Cindy Swope was voted best all around athlete for all 3 spons events. She was honored with a plaque. Her accomplishments include: establishing a school record in hurdles, setting a new high jump record, and setting a new record on the 440 relay team along with Rhoda Stoner, Elaine Smith, and Cheryl Hardwick. School records were broken by the follow- ing people: Tami Jackson in the 220 dash, Cheryl Hardwick in the 100 yd. dash, and Rhoda Stoner in the Long Jump. The most improvement shown this year was in the 880 relay team which includes Marilee Mussett, Carol Bell, Rhonda Johnson, and Tami Jackson. They went from a timing of 1:21.9 to a new school record of 1:55.5. LEFT: The team poses before going to a meet. Her best event is softball throw, though. 37 Bobkittens Capture 1st in Regionals The Bobkittens compiled the best basketball record ever by winning 2nd in League, 1st in Regionals and 2nd in Sub-State. This was accomplished by practic- ing technique drills, good conditioning, free shot practice and dedication by the coach and team members. For the first time the girls were able to practice after school and did eliminate many of the early morning practices. The competition for varsity positions was more intense than in seasons past and a Junior Varsity was formed. Bobkittens were honored by having three members named ALL STAR. They were Jenny Fore, Rhoda Stoner, and Kathy Kelly. Pictured below are the team members for '74-75. FRONT ROW, L to R: Carol Bell. Patty Lorrance, Karen Bellamy. The Bobcats did well for the home crowd as they placed second in both the Relay and Regional meets. This year the Cats also won their seconcl straight Jayhawk league track championship. Last year was the first year Basehor won and many members of last year's team returned to bring the title home again. The cheerleaders worked hard this year as this year cheered the Bobcats on to many fine victories. The girls worked to raise spirit and to lead the Pep Club. A car wash was held by the cheerleaders during the summer to raise money to help send them to camp at K.U. At camp they learned cheers and different ways to raise spirit. During the year, the five girls attended a spirit clinic at Shawnee Mission East High School to learn cheers, ways to improve pep ral- lies, and how to promote spirit. Key Club FRONT ROW, L to R: J. Another day at the movies!” 81 Remembering As we go through the days at BHS we all seem to have our own little separate worlds and it takes something that hurts us to bring us closer together and after this we seem to get back into the same routine. Some people had never heard of Bob Hilton or Tom Blansit and when they heard they had passed away they were touched in a way that these matters always touch us. These were a part of our school and we will not forget them. LEFT: Tom Blansit enrolled into Baschor High School as a Freshman in the 72-73 school year. Everyone at BHS noted Tom's great personality and his ability to make friends. He attended the Savior of the World Retreat and met many new friends and as a Catholic attended the Holy Angels Church regularly. Tom may no longer be here but all the people at BHS will remember him as a person easy to get along with and a really true friend. ABOVE: After someone has died it's only natural that praise be bestowed on the dead. But with Tree,” it's true, he was a really likeable person and his parents were great too. He always tried to make people laugh and was often a class clown. Remembering could go on and on and he is missed. Pictured below are the Sophomore officers and Sponsor.
