7 .W £ m HZ'- A Time for Everything There is a time to muse about things that were and someday will be A time to look back and remember the years long forgotten. Times of peace and silence reflecting on ages and events. Times of search and discovery preparing ourselves for the future. The time when we realize that one day we must face life alone. The best times we shall recall with fondness: memorable times of our lives, brief moments cherished for the values they hold. Times of youth that departing left footprints on the sand. These times---- we can have but today. For there is always a time to grow old. and lose-, and cry; to speak... Has it been good? Only the in- dividual can decide. What have I put into it to make it enjoyable? Has it or I lived up to the hopes or expecta- tions we longed for? Good times to lie remembered again and again. And bad----hopefully to be forgotten. I remember------ remember... w kkA r v The Class of 1972. Its memories, the good, the bad, and the ugly. Remember.... Events only to be remembered by the participants involved. When we as freshmen entered the vastness of high school with great hope and ex- pectations. The times we had from the first moments to now, as we are entering graduation, our last few minutes we experienced at BHS as high school students. 26 JUNIORS Frank Zacharlas Robert Woods Bill Williams Rubina Walker Steve Walta Elaine Worley First Row: Mrs. Grubeand Mr. Gar- rison, Sponsors; Second Row: Bar- bara Klamm and Dick Espy, Senate David Trower Nanette Williamson Vaughn Stoner Janet Timmons David Pantle Linda Russell Jeff Morris Loretta Porter Chris Mixon Nancy Phillips Mike lAinceford Venita Nash Dennis Kelly Nancy Moore Steve Irwin WE TRY 28 Representatives; Third Row: Rodney Blasche, V. And that’s the truth! ... ,TWant me to show foul ? Ow! ... Hubba Hubba ding ding .. Jump, Dave, Jump! You don’t have to be literate to win a float contest, do you Seniors? Hey you! I said ’GET THAT BALL!’ 40 Fun... Learning... little This year was filled with unforget- table memories for many students at BHS. Unfortunately, it is impossible to capture all of them on film, but it really doesn't matter because they are instilled in the minds of those who ex- perienced them forever. Memories, as well as education, are a definite part of high school. Mem- ories of the teachers and how they taught. And memories of what the students did to the teachers----like the day 20 frogs were suddenly leap- ing around in Mrs. Andersons Eng- lish III class. And, of course, there are the memories of the extracurricu- lar activities in which all students participate at one time or another. Activities like the bonfire and taking time out to roast hot-dogs at Kelly's or like soliciting for the annual and watching Rose Davoren flying through a parking lot in a grocery cart. Teachers, friends, fun, learning,---- they're all a part of BHS. Hum. I wonder if he's single. Sure doesn't taste like tomato juice! Oueens, Princesses, and Their Favorite Men The weekend of Oc.Dber 8 and 9 was filled with the celebration of the Basehor School Homecoming activities. The traditional Homecoming parade kicked off the 1971 Homecoming. Early Friday eve- ning, October 8, the parade started at the high school and proceeded down the main street of Basehor. Included in the parade were Cecil Swope, the volunteer firemen, high school marching band, Pep Club, cheerleaders, Bernie Bobcat, saddle club, individual class floats, crown and flower bearers, queen candidates, and the football players in a bus. The game started at 7:30 with the opposing team of Spring Hill. After a struggling fight, the Bobcats lost 44-0. The hallf-time enter- tainment included the marching band, the ma- jorettes, a Pep Club formation on the field, and the crowning of the queen. The Homecoming Dance held the following night, October 9, at the Basehor High School auditorium. The dance began at 8 P.M. and ended at 11 P.M. Mu- sic was provided by the band Backlash” and fea- tured both slow blues and hard rock. The dance was sponsored by the Student Council. Queen Sandy Porter was escorted to the dance by Gene Kelly. Princess Jackie Fore was escorted by Gary Knipp and Prin- cess Rosie Nick was es- corted by Larry Knipp. Two Reign Sovereign Special recognition is well deserved for the BOBCAT Staff members. Therefore the 1972 Annual Dance is held in their honor. All the senior members of the staff or any senior who even worked on the staff is automatically a candidate for King or Queen. The candidates receiving the most votes from the student body become King and Queen. The candidates for the 1972 Annual Dance royalty were Libby Creason, Elaine Al- dridge, Anita Gravatt, Sandy Porter, Gene Kelly, Rusty Swisher, Danny Hubbel, and David Chiles. Rusty and Elaine reigned as King and Queen. The band. Quick City, entertained from 8 o'clock till 11 o'clock, the length of the dance with a variety of music for the enjoy- ment of all. 45 46 The gym was decorated in oriental style. Under the direction of Bob Moews, the carnival made a total of $520.35 to be used toward expenses of the Music Department. Each class had booths or money-making projects of their choice. The Frosh had the jail, spook house, and a dart throw. The sophomores had a fortune-telling booth, tic- tac-toe, and wrestling. The junior class had the spring pull and spin the wheel. The fish pond, coin toss, and a dart throw were the Senior booths. 48 ACTIVITIES STUCO Building for the Better FRONT ROW: Joyce Peterson, Mrs. Kiester; sponsor, Danny Hubbel. 2nd ROW: David Chiles, Steve Eberth, Rose Ann Nick. This is the main money-mak- ing project of STUCO. The Student Council under the leadership of Mrs. Ki- ester from 1966 through 1972 have invested $2275. This is to be put toward an electric score board for the Basehor High School football field. STUCO would also like to thank everyone who sold magazines this past year. The magazine sales were the highest this year than any other year in the past 26 years. The total sales that made the magazine campaign such a big success were $2,347.69. For having the great- est amount sold, the Junior class won the $10. FRONT ROW: Debbie Pouppirt, Janet Ready, Pam Allison, Debbie Garrison, Karen Hardwick. BACK ROW: David Pantle, Paul Runnels. The Basehor High School Pep Club started its year with the annual welcome party in early fall to acquaint all new members with the purpose of the club. Then they fell into the regular routine of attending games, creating spirit, and building team support. Homecoming was the highlight of the football season with a parade down Main Street before the game followed by a formation on the field at half-time. The basketball sea- son was opened with a new idea—Banner girls. Although their uniforms were ready for the first game, there was some delay in the arrival of the letters. However, all turned out well, as the picture below illustrates. As the team progressed, the girls followed, constantly cheering them on, making the basketball season a very successful one. But the pep and spirit did not stop there. Members continued backing boys and girls alike during the track season with many members attending the meets and supporting the team. The club produced its money from concessions and a new money-making project. Butterfly-, frog-, turtle-, and lip-shaped bulletin boards can now be located in almost any house in Basehor. 55 Bobcat And Breeze 56 BREEZE STAFF: BOTTOM ROW: D. DeMaranville, J. Drake, D. The BOBCAT and the BREEZE are the main voices of Basehor High School. They both consist of students who work hard and strive to relate school news and memories exactly as they happen in an attempt to create, on paper, a realistic portrayal of school life. The annual staff, headed by Libby Crea- son and Barbara Klamm (left) has really outdone itself this year. Many hours of soliciting brought in over $1,500, the most money ever made. There were hopes for color pictures, but there still wasn't enough money. So, instead, they got their heads together and thought up as many creative, yet inexpensive, new ideas as they could. And so they came up with this, the greatest annual ever! Jeff Wright and Ellen Miller (right) are editor-in-chief and assistant editor, re- spectively, of the BREEZE.
