Donald Schwalm . Basehor School Band Class History The new freshmen stormed Basehor High School in the fall of 1962 as we began our four-year high school careers. Thankfully, we escaped initiation by the sophomores and, therefore, were able to elect a very responsi- ble group of class officers, who were Linda Carlstrom, Bernard Downing, Ireta Field, Steve Cacharias, and Jerry Kay Boggs. Nancy Meyer was a majorette, and John Walden broke the school record for the 100 yard dash. We charged back to the new high school building as sophomores in 1963, but this time with a diminishing class roll of 38 students. Joyce Poggemeyer, Beth Grisham, George Lingenfelser, Linda Carlstrom, and Linda Hein were class officers. Larry Scheller and Nancy Meyer took the honors of being Carnival King and Queen, and Nancy Meyer, Joyce Poggemeyer, and Joyce Nance were majorettes. Ireta Field was alternate cheerleader. Thirty-six upper classmen joyfully arrived back at dear old Basehor High and prepared to have another great year together. Larry Scheller was given the honor of being President, and Maureen Barry, Beth Grisham, Linda Hein, and Bernard Downing were our other officers. Phyllis Looney won the privilege of being named Homecoming Queen. Ireta Field and Linda Carlstrom were cheerleaders, and Joyce Poggemeyer became Drum Majorette. Our Junior Play, The Stuck Pot, was a rousing success; and our Prom, with the theme, In The Misty Moonlight, was one of the best ever given. John Walden set a new record in track. At last we earned the privilege of being seniors and began our busiest, most exciting year at Basehor. John Jons, Bob Petitt, Phyllis Looney, Maureen Barry, and Bill Eberth were officers. We presented the play, A Change of Heart, and our royalty was Bill Eberth and Phyllis Looney, Carnival King and Queen; Joyce Pogge- meyer and Phyllis Looney, Homecoming Princesses; Linda Carlstrom and John Walden, Annual Royalty. Linda Carlstrom was head cheerleader. Baccalaureate, Class Night, and finally Commencement ended our four years at Basehor, and the Class of 1966 will never forget the wonderful hours spent here. They won third in the Tri-County League with a record of one victory and two losses, and finished the season with a record of one victory and five losses. The Bobcats finished the season with 25 lettermen. Two Bobcats made the All-League team, Dennis Strouhal at tackle, and George Lingenfelser at guard.
